Henry & Cummings at least should get some games if we get to a point where we can't do it.

Post-Toon(h)

Well, our season's max haul is now down to 68, which means that we can't catch Cardiff, and so that means the best our guys could finish would be in fifth, and that's if and only if an insane sequence of good things falls into place

What follow are the "tragic numbers" for RFC relative to each of the sides now in front but still catchable

Any combination of the number of points shown for each side won by that side and dropped by us that sums to at least that number means that we wouldn't be able to catch 'em

5) Leicester: 2 Watford(h) Preston(a) Boro(h) (e.g., if they draw twice, or if we draw once, then we can't catch them)
6) Swansea: 4 Barnsley(h) SheffU(a) Donny(h) (e.g., if they win once and draw once, or if they draw twice and we draw once...)
------------------------
7) Blackpool: 6 Forest(h) Posh(a) BristolC(h) (e.g., if they win once and we lose once...)
8) Middlesbrough: 8 WBA(a) Coventry(h) Leicester(a) (and so on)
9) Bristol City: 10 Scunny(a) Derby(h) Blackpool(a)
10) Sheff Utd: 11 Wendesday(a) Swansea(h) Ipswich(a)

We're actually Blades fans for the day when they play Swansea on the penultimate matchday --if it still matters-- and then, longshot of longshots, hoping that Bristol City beat Blackpool and Leicester beat Boro on 2nd May

But to all reasonable appearances, it's just about over; we're on the rack, and indeed we could get knocked out of contention this coming Saturday

Even if we were to win out and finish in sixth on 68, we'd be setting a new standard for low points won by a sixth-place finisher in a play-offs season that involved the sides finishing third thru sixth in the table

Helluva ride though --max points from here on in never likely but do-able; the rest falling into place would be nothing short of a Festivus miracle come in the springtime

As you say Chi, one hell of a ride. The extreme lows of QPR/ Blades up to the heady height of Anfield and back. The very best of this season is scraping up the pieces of a very broken season and restoring some pride in the team, results and MaccyD.

Whether we make it or most likely not, I would just love to be alive on the last day. Stave off elimination this weekend is job one.

pLOLay-offs.

Job done tonight; I didn't want to shell out more of my hard earned on seeing Reading dick up another play off campaign anyway, so a few more wins and a top ten finish and I will be as happy as Larry the Sand boy.

i have found this season very enjoyable, brought back a lot of feelings i had as a fan in the 80's and 90's. We've been on an upward spiral since 2001/2002, forget the premier league i didnt particularly enjoy it anyway. This season has brought us down to earth, expectation levels have dropped, games against Barnsley and Scunthorpe finally mean something, and i (or we) can get back to supporting Reading for the reasons i want to, to experience the good, the bad, and the dam right shit, thats why i go.

Don't get me wrong, 2005/2006 was probably the most enjoyable season i will ever have as a Reading fan til the day i die, but its f'ing good to have the highs and lows back, and most importantly, the soul of the club back that went missing for a good 3 years.

Can't wait for next season.

With that loss to Newcastle last night, I believe that our play-off chances are gone. Even if we win the last 4 games, we would need a miracle from other clubs for play-offs to happen.

Already getting ready for next season. :D

Right, since someone's going to ask, and we don't need a brand new thread for it, and the rest will roll their eyes (and a few of those will find it necessary to spare the precious seconds out of their lives to make a remark anyway ::rolleyes::)...

No, we haven't officially been eliminated from contention for a sixth-place finish (although fifth is now gone), but it's inched even closer with Leicester, Swansea and Blackpool winning; by the numbers then:

6) Swansea: 1 SheffU(a) Donny(h) (any point won by them or dropped by us ends the chase)
------------------------
7) Blackpool: 3 Posh(a) BristolC(h) (if they win once, or if we lose once or draw twice...)
8) Middlesbrough: 8 WBA(a) Coventry(h) Leicester(a) (they just kicked off and could reduce that number by 1 or 3)
9) Bristol City: 10 Derby(h) Blackpool(a)
10) Sheff Utd: 11 Wendesday(a) Swansea(h) Ipswich(a) (they play Sunday; could knock 1 or 3 off of that number)

Looking below, with our substantial goal-difference edge on those who could match us for points taken into account, we're good for finishing no worse than tenth bottom (or in 15th, if one prefers to look at it that way)
