3 14 3 23 Colchester
4 14 11 22 Bournemouth

Completely irrelevant. No team maintains their form over a specific 10-game period (or fewer games in some of your posts on this thread) for a full 38-game season such that this extrapolation is relevant.

It is not a PREDICTION, Gwhath-hopper.

It's a way of showing what 1.70 points-per-game "MEANS"

Just remember that for ALL Gylfi's games, or for just the Gylfi games under McDermott,
whether you include or exclude cups, and excluding the three games where Gylfi was sub (we lost all three)

the best EVER points per game with Gylfi was 1.489, ten points a season WORSE than we are currently doing.

We are doing better than when Gylfi was here. FACT

Getting back to the original point of this topic-Harte.
In all my years of watching Reading I can only think of Paul Bodin and Stuart Gray as being worse left-backs than Ian Harte.
His superb free-kick only clouds the issue IMHO.
A left-back is in the side first and foremost to defend and in the last two home games he has been dreadful.
I really do hope that Brian gets a clearer vision of the left-back position as today Harte's contribution comes out at NIL.
He was totally at fault for their 3rd goal and then scored our 3rd so net he has effectively done nothing.

So why do you suppose McDermott keeps playing Harte rather than Armstrong?

Even with those 3 conceded goals today we have conceded just 9 goals in ten games.

Harte has played the last ten games (conceding 9 goals)

Here is the league table for defence

1 14 05 0.36 Queens Park Rangers 2ND in League
2 14 12 0.86 Cardiff City TOP of League
2 14 12 0.86 Swansea City 3RD in League
4 14 14 1.00 Reading 6TH in League
4 14 14 1.00 Nottingham Forest

Forget all the BS arguments and subjective opinions. This is a factual table

And we are pretty high in attack terms too

1 14 28 2.00 Cardiff City
2 14 26 1.86 Queens Park Rangers
2 14 26 1.86 Watford
4 14 25 1.79 Derby County
5 14 23 1.64 Doncaster Rovers
5 14 23 1.64 Leeds United
7 14 22 1.57 Reading
7 14 22 1.57 Burnley

And Goal Supremacy?

1 14 +21 +1.50 Queens Park Rangers
2 14 +16 +1.14 Cardiff City
3 14 +08 +0.57 Reading
3 14 +08 +0.57 Derby County
3 14 +08 +0.57 Swansea City

I'm inclined to agree and I *hate* knocking players.

His goal was phenomenal but it's worrying me a little that we have a striker who can't score goals but who seems to do good non-striker jobs.

And we have a left-back who *might not* be very good at defending (I'm not going to comment on whether or not I agree with this as I don't think I've concentrated on him enough to say to be honest) but can score.

Therefore we're getting our goals from midfield/defence and we must be getting our good defensive record from somewhere else.

Or perhaps there's something far more subtle going on here. Perhaps Brian has moulded a team that's far greater than its individual parts. Everyone is doing everything. Defenders are scoring. Strikers are getting in deep and battling/defending. Whatever it is though the table doesn't lie.... but then again the table can only tell us how good we are, not how good we SHOULD be i.e. yes we're good, but if we fix the left-back situation with, say Armstrong and we fix the Long fiasco with another striker or we go 4-4-2 will we do a lot better?

I'll leave that one to Brian!

I sincerely believe we have a GREAT defence. Look at the figures. 9 goals conceded in the last ten games! Note this is post-Gylfi when we got in Harte and then Kish. I confess they often worry my unprofessonal eye, and sometimes I think, "We got away with that." But at this level sides DO get away with it. Doncaster should have been dead and buried before the equalised.

The dumb punters (and they really ARE dumb) keep saying "Harte got rinsed."

It wasn't a Harte rinsing that caused the first goal, it was HRK allowing the player to cross.
It wasn't a Harte rinsing that gave away the (unfair) free-kick. It was Howard's tackle (which I thought was a good tackle.)
It wasn't a Harte rinsing that gave away the third goal. It was harte's fault but nothing to do with speed.

The only other goal so far that ANYONE has said was due to Harte was at Bristol where Griffin failed to stop the cross, Harte failed to get the flight of the ball right, the player headed back across goal, and Mills (fouled) failed to block. So NOT A SINGLE GOAL THIS SEASON HAS BEEN SCORED AGAINST READING DIRECTLY BECAUSE A WINGER DID HARTE FOR SPEED.

He IS slow, painfully, but he's very, very clever.

I see Harte got the assist for Mills goal, also gave HRK a free-header (and, of course scored a free-kick and is now our second top-scorer
despite only playing 10 of our 14 games.

What a great buy!

I see Harte has scored more senior goals this season than any other Reading FC player

5 Goals in 14 Games.

Not bad for someone a thousand years old.
