winchester_royal Looking forward to that. Haven't seen the likes of Tanner in a while.

The U16's were also victorious against Spurs this weekend. Josh Barrett with a brace to celebrate recently signing scholar forms.

Where do you find info regarding U16s?

Fair enough.
Don't think I can be arsed with following kids on twitter though.

Think Tanner confirmed what we kind've already knew that if he can avoid further injuries he's going to be a fine player.

Set the two goals up and caused problems all game but what impressed me most was how tactically aware he was both with and without the ball.

Interesting one for me was T'shbola. There's a touch of the YaYa's about the way he seems to hold onto the ball for too long yet suddenly powers away from players. Think he could go either way depending on whether he develops enough to be able to do this in the senior game.

I'd have thought we'd be very keen to get these two out on loan asap because there's every possibility given the likely cost cutting at the end of thsi season if we don't go up that they'll be in contention for the 1st team next season.

Think Tish is free this summer. Making these lads wait for a contract is a little unnerving, especially when we are currently looking likely to sell a lot of the first-team big earners this summer. We'll be looking at the youth if that is the case.

I think you are right but he is under a pro contract so we would get compensation if he went elsewhere. However, I will be very surprised if we are not in the process of extending it.

I'm fairly sure some of the younger lads played in that side, but I don't know if the whole team did.

Only if we offer him terms equal to what he's already on. Which, in fairness, we would have to be totally nuts not to do.

Kelly hat trick. The Youth Cup game this Wednesday should be a good one. Hopefully we'll get a decent crowd down there.

Believe it'll be live on the Reading channel on youtube, also I would expect LFC TV to have it live for those who get that channel on cable/satellite

Depressing thing is, he probably doesn't even know who Screech is.

I know there was a piece in the Yeovil matchday programme about Reading's previous run to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals, but I didn't read it. So what follows might be duplication. I thought it would be interesting to look at Reading's performance in that 1987-88 competition. The matches were as follows, courtesy of Rothmans:

Preliminary Round
Weymouth 0 Reading 15

First Qualifying Round
Newbury Town 1 Reading 1
Reading 6 Newbury Town 1

Second Qualifying Round
Reading 1 Romsey Town 1
Romsey Town 0 Reading 2

Round 1
Reading 4 Oxford United 0

Round 2
Horndean 1 Reading 1
Reading 5 Horndean 1

Round 3
Reading 2 Notts County 1

Round 4
Southend United 0 Reading 3

Quarter-finals
Reading 0 Tottenham Hotspur 0
Tottenham Hotspur 2 Reading 1

First obvious differences from now are that there used to be replays, and that the quarter-finals were Round 5 instead of Round 6. The round a club started in was not related to the division that the club's first team's play in, as is the case now. Presumably it was based on performance in previous FA Youth Cups, so Reading had to start early in the competition because all of our previous youth teams had been hopeless (which in turn was because all the best local footballers signed for Crystal Palace or Southampton). Also, it looks as if the draw was regionalised up to and including Round 3 - and probably more than just a north-south split.

After scraping past Reading, Tottenham lost to Doncaster in the two-legged final, and Doncaster then lost to Arsenal in the two-legged final. Attendance for Arsenal's home leg of the final was 4,843. The only players in the final that jump out are Steve Morrow and Kevin Campbell for Arsenal, plus Rufus Brevett for Doncaster.
