I can think of several posters who got abuse without having dished any out first. Originally I certainly dished plenty out to snowball, but even when I made an effort to play nice, or just ignored him I got the petty childish insults, so I gave up worrying about it.

This strikes me as an utterly useless point that brings nothing to anything. If we do well enough to finish in the top few places, we'll likely have one of the best goal differences in the league and vice versa. Well no shit sherlock, team winning games scores more than it conceeds shocker.

Svlad Cjelli Does anyone have any stats on how many times Snowball has turned abusive when someone has challenged his use of stats?

Rarely. I love DEBATE but react to ABUSE

Self abuse > all

why is everyone picking one snowball these days?

Because I keep getting proved right, and they hate it! :D

Shaping up nicely, it's going to be worth an extra point come May.

So if we end up with 73 and Leeds have 74 but we have a better goal difference we will be above them?

It's worth, for argument's sake .99 of a point, or .001 of a point

Sure it's points first, but remember Cardiff missing the play-offs because they lost 6-0 to Preston and missed a pen?

Had they lost 5-0 or 6-1 they'd've made the POs

It is more like an advantage than a point tho, lets be honest about it.

I think the best way of putting it is "it could be like an extra point at the end of the season." It could also be utterly irrelevant.

OR - it's worth half a point. Not enough to draw level with the team one point ahead of you, but enough to keep you ahead of the teams level with you.

3rd best goal difference in the league now (behind QPR and Watford). Fingers crossed that's still the case come the end of Feb.

No, HSSC, however with Cardiff (a), QPR (h), Norwich (a) and then Watford (h) as the first 4 games (FA Cup 5th Round game permitting for the last one), to still be in the same GD position would mean a decent set of results against those teams.

I accept I could have put in May but I think that's looking too far ahead.

With Ingi back, his experience is very important, if BM can get them believing, then the push for promotion could go from here, one more signing to give competition up front and who knows where BM can take this team.

A win at Wembley would be the icing on the cake of the best decade (01-02 to 10-11) in RFC's history IMO.

Goal difference means jack until the end of the season; to attempt to extrapolate exactly where a team will finish in the final League table in May on the basis of their goal difference in November, December or January is at best, something to have a laugh with down the pub with mates; to take such a thing seriously is simply

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out the a team with better goal difference than another team are, on the balance of probabilities, going to finish higher than that team, and vice versa.

Beyond that though, its simply speculative.

Classic nobber misquoting and narrow thinking.

Goal difference is better than goals scored or defensive ability as a predictor of league position.

A side that appears lower than it should, based on GD, USUALLY ends up higher

But what was said was that IF RFC are in the same position GD-wise at the end of the season, they "WILL" finish in the top six. (That's POSITION GD-wise, ie 3rd/4th, not finishing with a GD of 13)

So say you win 5-0 in 16 games. Your GD is 80. But then you lose all the others 1-0. Your GD will be 50. But you will only have 48 points. Does this mean you finish top as you have the best GD? No it doesn't.

I'll take your bet and give you 10,000-1 that the above will never happen.

In 2008 Bristol City finished 4th in the Championship 4th with a GD of +1. 11 teams had a better GD than them.

In the same league in the same year, Leicester finished 3rd from bottom and were relegated with a GD of -3. 10 teams had a worse GD than them.
