Mid Sussex Royal
Jackson Corner It was more than 80k. Nearer 300k? But like you I could not believe he went to another third division club. Pompey must have been paying wages way above the going rate for the time. Some things never change.

Just checked - transfer fee was £87.5K - no add ons mentioned but they were rare in those days anyway.

Seem to remember we sold Steve Hetzke to Blackpool for £10K at the same time??

Even more sickening. You would compare Webb to Sig at the time. And I doubt £87,000 = 7 million in todays money.

Ian Royal Fans delusion and ego size Kieran.

Can't believe you don't know Brighton are the biggest club outside London, Manchester & Liverpool!

I see. Never experienced their delusions. Although, I can confirm, they must be delusions as they REALLY havent ever won anything - like EVER and I have been to the Goldstone ground with an attendance of 14k and 6.5k of those were Pompey.

floyd__streete I am beginning to like this Kieran fella. Not developing a cyber-man-crush on him or anything (not ruling anything out mind) but I like his knowledge of history and delicate use of irony. I bet he still wears a hooped earring, mind.

No hooped earring I am afraid. Re the crush, lets just see how it pans out.

Maguire Anyone else not actually really care about Pompey? Went there a couple of times, the stand was shit, never went back. I'm over it.

I could cope with our awful record against them if it weren't for the rank awfulness of Fratton Park for the visiting fan (I am all for sh*t, old-school football grounds, but Fratton Park takes the p*ss) and the pikey nature of the locals. Like you, I could always choose not go back, but that's what they'd be expecting us to do.

It's not as if I am perpetuating a myth of any remotely serious rivalry here, that would be a little like Bournemouth's one-sided hatred of Reading which always just feels a bit like being hated by Gordon the Gopher :| . I just don't like the town, club, ground and - of course, chiefly - our record against them. I quite like Fred Dineage, mind.

Nah, Fred Dineage is cnut.

FP is bad, but considering it is our first and only ground its pretty good really - its over 100 years old. Do you remember Elm Park? Thats was a lot worse than FP. I do miss these old grounds. The plastic bowls are just not the same. I will be sad if we ever lose FP, but appreciate that it is really the only way forward.

Saints fans make me laugh. they go on about how bad FP is and then in another thread say how great The Dull was and how it is missed. The Dull was far worse than FP. Short memories.

Do I remember Elm Park? Is John Westwood an attention-seeking c*nt?

EP was of course diabolical, but it was comfortably diabolical; a sputum-drenched security blanket of a ground - beloved by us, despicable to everyone else. I fully appreciate that the same principle applies to Fratton Park. But at least we never bolted plastic seats to shallow concrete terracing and had the temerity to charge £20-odd for the privilege

Not to mention then charging an extra £8 (I think it was) because said stand had been upgraded to luxuory standard by the addition of that deluxe item known as a roof.

Still, for thos who hate Pompey supporters, they are being stuffed by the board over season ticket renewals even worse than us.

Somone at Pompey They announced on Friday (18th March) that we have until 31 March to renew our season tickets at the earlybird price, payments must be made by cash or cheque only, or by using a finance company for installments, interest free but there is an admin charge. In the past we could pay a deposit by end of March and the balance by end May, and use a card. Most of us are not objecting to the price rise, my season, if I renew now works out at less than £14 a match, but the time given and the fact that we can't pay by credit or debit card.

After the 31st March you can pay by CC but prices go up by at least £50. Season ticket holders must renew by end April to keep their seat.

Match day tickets have gone up a lot, with a £2 admin charge if you buy on the day, and they have reintroduced category matches.. No cheap tickets on the Milton End - I get the impresion they have been caught out by having to let away supporters have the cheap rate as well.

In my experience Pompey fans are so smug its disgusting! None of them remember where they came from nor the corrupt way they managed to get the success they did. Hope we stuff them!

Jinxs are not only meant to be broken, but destroyed, smashed into tiny little bits of shrapnel so they can be of no use evermore.

I liked at EP. Prefer it to the mad. I must be getting old.

We had no choice but to bolt the plastic seats. Agree re the prices.

floyd__streete in reality they are a nasty bunch of sh*ts from the docks led by this dullard from Petersfield who I have had the misfortune to meet in person - he is as boring in reality as you'd expect.

.

Does he stink? He looks like he would.

I don't think I can hate a club for ou terrible record against them. I do hate all the games I've seen. Even the win was dull.

I do dislike the big-headedness of some of their fans. The press coverage of the good atmosphere in the premiership seems to have caused some to regard themselves as true defenders of the faith - the most passionate and most loyal fans in the country. Mention how moribund Fratton Park used to be before the money flowed in, or that "plastic fairweather johnny-come-lately" Reading fans are actually drawing more fans than Portsmouth at the moment, and the fingers go in the ears as they pretend they can't hear you.

And I really dislike the pleas of poverty, first because its their own fault, and secondly because they see nothing wrong with signing loan players they can't afford on £20,000 a week.

No Hoops Looking forward to this one as was on hols over half term so missed the Watford and Millwall games.

So that's 1 game since 5th Feb

This will be my first game since Jan 8th!

All points to a 0-0. The home game against them around this time 4 years ago was so dull i'd forgotten i even went! I remember almost nothing about the day at all, which is pretty unusual for me in the last 5/6 years. Hopefully i'll forget about all this on the day itself as otherwise i'll get it into my head so much that it will be shit that it invariably will be.

Oh and John PFC was in the same pub as a group of us before an England game last year. I didn't meet him myself but a couple did and came back saying he was alright..

I can understand why people dislike Pompey because of the financial stuff in recent years but I don't get the rest of it.
This may be because my nan was born in Portsmouth but moved up North to Reading in the early 1900s when their dad was looking for work and my nan lived all of her adult life in Hilcot Road, about 600 yards from Elm Park.
When I park the car for away games at Fratton Park it is usually in a road of terraced houses similar to those around Elm Park and in East Reading all built around the same time early on last century.
Their fans seem about as pikey as ours and look as chavvy and scruffy as ours,in fact they are similar in a lot of ways.

Just for a change I would like to see us beat them on Saturday but fear the worst with Kitson returning.
