Ian Royal If our defence is Griffin, Cummings, Pearce, Khumalo, Sonko, Morrison, Harte by the end of next week I'll get even more postive. If we keep Long and sign a pacey left back, I'll be thinking we've got a decent shot at promotion.

Seven at the back? Sure we wouldn't concede too many, but what about going forward?

McAnuff, Kebe and Long for the goals.

LOLong!

zummerset You are forgetting the beast..Monsieur Manset

I guess we could try playing without a Goalie if we've got 7 in defence

In a strange way this reminds me of the 2005-2006 season, i thought we were in for a tough season after the end of the previous season, no one really coming in. After the plymouth game 'shit it's going to be a long season', as a fan I realise I know shite all about football :)

NR_Royal We still have two of the best wingers in the league in Kebe and McAnuff, with Robson-Kanu looking decent after last season. We also possess a good midfield with two tireless ball winners in Leigertwood and Karacan. OK, you can argue that our biggest weakness is in defence, but hopefully a combination of Pearce and Morrison/Harte/new signing will be strong enough to resist most teams. Cummings and Griffin are good enough at RB, and if we bring in a centre-back and a left-back, we'd be alright.

I still believe that we have a good squad capable of achieving something this season. I reckon Leicester will be moving around the playoffs instead of demolishing the league as everyone's predicting and I can't really see West Ham tearing the league up either. I reckon Birmingham could still do a job, but I'm tipping us for a similar campaign to last season. After all, no one thought we'd do anything decent this time last year, did they? :?

WOW, I really predicted this quite well... 8)

Maguire Impossible to say at the moment but if last season taught us anything it's that B-Mac is more than capable of surprising us all.

Phew, bit of a non-prediction but i'll stand by it

Handsome Man I'm looking forward to the new season. We have lost our captain, but our number one striker hasn't gone yet and is being talked about as a £10 million player. Nobody is mentioning Kebe leaving. Pearce will get more games next year, and we are usually better with him playing. Cummings will give Griffin a run for his money. HRK improved a lot last year. Manset looks like he had a good summer fitness-wise. There are lots of positives.

I can understand the spoilt bastard brigade complaining because Mr Madejski hasn't spent millions of his own money buying us superstar players and risking a future full of Jimmy Bullard situations commiting to long-term multi-million pound salaries. I could also understand my sister's tears when she wasn't bought ponies and shit for her birthday.

I doubt the stats would bear out that assertion.

Ha!

I was right.

I was sure I had said something once on the Team Board that was clever.

Agreed. You have to laugh at people like Lawro who look straight to teams twatting the most money away and predict easy promotion for them. But you have conveniently missed out your prediction of 30 goals between Church and Manset!

I always knew we wouldn't make the playoffs this season.

someone who shall remain unnamed The team is likely to be about £13,000,000 inferior to what it was last season.
Surely, it is simply realistic and logical to assume that it will perform worse?
And, yes, I know the same could be said at the start of last season.

And this is exactly why it is stupid to look at how much players we've lost were sold for and use it as some sort of yardstick. It was stupid the year before too. And the year before that. And the year before that.
