No Fixed Abode
Mr Angry
No Fixed Abode A striker who can't get in the Blackburn side ahead of David Goodwillie. Gr8 signing.

Jason Robert's Blackburn Appreciation Society. Looks like winner to me! What do they expect more than 25 goals in five years!

Couldn't agree more with this comment.

How does Roberts justify is Striker tag ?

I'm going to check his stats for BRFC ?

The defining moment arrived for me all things Roberts with his:

'Celebrating before the ball had hit the open net miss at Sunderland'

when I realised that he was finished as a striker and most certainly one who could not achieve that most crucial/important goal that goes down in the memory.

His latest forte, that as a pundit on 5 live, is as painful as the misses he has achieved with BRFC !

Funny but, should he have put the ball in the net as sweetly as he sidestepped my question on 5 live then it is fair to assume he would have become a legend down at Ewood. As it stands, for me personally, I say good riddance & hope you find your'e shooting boots down at Reading ?

Cheerio & thanks for well, not much !

Oh, I'll give you one credit. On as a sub v BWFC under Hughes whence you scored the winner.

Well done.

Arte et labore

He should fit in well with Church & Co

I'm keen on the idea of an Alf Roberts attack. Worked well on Coronation Street.

I agree. It died a death in the end though.

I was a bit underawed with this signing until I thought : any striker in this division > Church.

In fact my 3 legged cat > Church

So from that point of view it has to be an improvement on what we have.

Got to take into consideration that January is silly season for price tags. OK Reading may have investment but they aren't going to just go and waste a load on a massively over inflated price on either Sharp or Rhodes now.

If and when Doncaster go down which looks highly likely with or without Sharp, they will be almost forced to sell him in the summer and for a fraction of the price they'll want now while they'll think they might stay up if they keep him.

Same scenario with Rhodes, no guarantees that Huddersfield will win promotion. Clark has already said the only way they can keep him is by winning promotion but he's not going now. So if you wanted to prize him away now it would take a nonsense offer of way over £5million or something liek that for them to even consider it. Now if Huddersfield balls it up again, like Doncaster they'll be forced to sell.

So for Reading it's far better getting in somebody proven who won't cost the earth who definitely improves the team/squad for the next year and a bit i.e Roberts, then re-evaluate it in the summer. Chances are one or both of the above will be available at a cut price within Reading's range then they can have 1 of the above + Roberts + ALF and Hunt. Now that would be an excellent 4 for this league.

I think it is a good signing because Jason Roberts is different to the other striking options we have and his physique is more suited to our style of play than the other strikers. This means with Jason Roberts in the team when we resort to the long ball game it will be more effective and successful and will culminate in potentially more goals being scored and better results than it has done previously in the season. :D

I don't really care that he is 34 or whether there was a fee involved or not.

To me this signing shows a bit of ambition, someone from a league above us who knows where the net is and not someone from two or more stages below in the pyramid system.

It's an 18 month impact contract. McDermott knows what he needs and he needs at least three players in this window. When taking account of wages to be paid it would be a little naive to blow the whole budget on a league 1 goal machine who is unproven at championship level.

Lets not forget that ALF is a lower league goal machine but without the service he becomes very average.

Good signing in my opinion! :)

We've sold our soul to the devil potentially but I haven't been able to stop grinning all day!

Chuffed with this signing. Anyone think the big man will go straight into the first 11?

I do hope so, just on the basis that it must be better than what we currently have starting.

Arnie_Pie Alf and Roberts up front with Cywka just behind.

Goals right there.

And if they can't score they can always run the Rovers Return.

He won't be match fit though will he? I reckon Hunt & Church will probably start & then he might do a double sub & bring on ALF & Roberts. Alf & Roberts is the pairing I want to see.
