Libertine Yep, not if they haven't been playing very well in the youth and reserve matches.

We are fucking 1-6-8 right now...can it get much worse? :|

Yes.

It's amazing what being left out of a losing side can do for the perception of a player's ability.

Saying that, I am still stumped at some team selections, but "we should try it because we have nothing to lose" isn't much of an argument. The only reason we should put players in is because it's believed they'll do a better job, not because we just hope they might.

Mind you, I didn't bother going today. The opening day draw had relegation running through it like a stick of Blackpool rock, and it's not got any better. I predict 26 points and some very thin-looking "sold out" crowds by the end of the season.

Ok, so we're basically fucked for the near future. We have a bunch of players who are on the wrong side of 30 who are showing they can't cut it at this level, we have a few decent youngish players who will probably be bought up by larger teams and our youth system has a bunch of shit players in it who might have league one careers ahead of them if they are lucky.

Oh, and fuck off Ian, no need to be such a fucking prick...I don't get a chance to see these shit won't ever play above league one youth players the team is hyping. I thought based on what is being said about them they had some potential. My bad for buying into the hype.

A sad state of affairs for Reading FC then...

Utter cack. Jobi missed a sitter. ALF missed a sitter. Tabb could have had a penalty perhaps.

Oh get a grip on reality. The reason Shaw is the youngest ever to play in the PL and there aren't dozens of teenagers out there every week is because its a man's game and even most of the best players aren't ready to compete at this level at that age. And just because our team is struggling and is going to get relegated doesn't mean all our players are suddenly too shit for the Championship either, most of them are still the same players as last season who are easily good enough for that league. And plenty of our side are barely into their prime yet, if there.

McCarthy
Gunter, Morrison, Mariappa, Pearce, Cummings
McCleary, Karacan, Guthrie, Robson-Kanu
Le Fondre

That's a team probably capable of at least surviving in the Championship from just our players under 27 years old. Almost all of whom have already proved themselves sufficiently at that level.

And just because our youth players arent ready to save our season, doesn't mean they won't develop into players capable of playing for our first team in the future (although even by the percentages most certainly won't).

Southampton spent £33m during the summer, those heavy wages will start stacking up. They didn't look the business and will be fighting relegation with us as well. Only scraped past a team with a limited budget says something, Southampton are still as shit as we are.

Jobi just let Clyne go for the goal there.

And Tabb didn't track Puncheon. Plus Morrison didn't come across quick enough to cover his run. And there was nothing wrong with his first goal. But don't worry, we could have had two soft penalties so it's ok.

For a guy who gets constant praise for his terrier-like attributes, Tabb was pitiful for the goal. Can't really blame Morrison in my view. Our supposedly defensive midfielders really don't know how to support our defence. I thought the back four largely did a good job in difficult circumstances and for the most part nullified the effect of Soton's midfield superiority. Shorey was a bit off his oats, but I thought Cummings had one of his best games for us.

Just seen the highlights on sky and it was worse than it sounded on the radio.

After last weeks game against united I felt optimistic as if we played like that every week we would win a few games. But we come out and play completely different.

The players are stuck in the losing habit now and its hard to get out of.

I have been a fan of Brian, but today's performance was one of the worst I have seen in ten years of having a season ticket.

So many problems to sort out and I'm not sure Brian can do it.

The players didn't look like they knew their jobs
There was no shape
Simple passes were going astray
It was mistake after mistake
We were not closing down and letting players run at us with an invite to shoot
The substitutions make no sense at all - Guthrie had to come on when we were chasing the game
Too many players are out of form
We look unfit
There are distractions - Pearce situation, Guthrie falling out with mcd

We need a fresh approach or Brian needs to start addressing these problems very quickly. Some new players early in jan to have a chance. Two centre backs, right back, centre midfielder and a forward minimum.

Big Ern Totally spineless performance. Void of tactics and desire. Nobody played well against a struggling team.

Read all this thread but this sums it up for me

Heard Ston fans saying "we were all over them, they had nothing"
Difficult to argue!

We're marking space, there's no movement on and off the ball, there's no urgency, no quality, no creativity, we can't defend, we deserved to lose to a team who are also shit but still better than us.

It's just amazing there is a team below us in the table.

Players upping their game against the top teams shocker. They won't, they don't & they can't sustain that level of intensity week in week out.
