AJ_urz9cmonurzpaultheroyal Defoe no doubt out the England game, who gets the call? Lambert, Le Fondre, other?
Carroll, probably.
Deserves to be either ALFie or Lambert after how they've both played so far this season compared to Carroll

Ian Royal Whilst I really rate ALF and he's doing well at the moment, I think it says more about England's dearth of proven international quality strikers that a player who was playing in League Two as recently as last season is being talked about for a cap. No matter how good his form has been over the last few games.
If he can keep performing I think he'll deserve a shot at a cap, but not yet.

Barry the bird boggler It's a pointless friendly, Hodgson should be looking at fringe players in the main. Even if it's no more than giving them a feel for joining up with the squad and watching from the bench. Lambert and Le Fondre should at least be considered - although my guess is it'll be Carroll straight back in,

Victor Meldrew There really is a terrible shortage of English strikers around.
Welbeck and Alf don't play much club football and Sturridge and Carroll have been out for some time for different reasons.
I think Alf needs to play more before he will be considered-he has a good enough touch,as Shorey had,to be considered for International football-but previous managers picked Ricketts,Nugent,Carlton Cole and Bothroyd so he does have a chance and good luck to him if it happens.
Kerry Dixon was capped only after he left us,Kitson should have been called up and it would be great for Alf if he got the call.

G'La Where do you think Le Fondre stands in the England Selection scheme of things? Rooney, Welbeck, Defoe and Sturridge perhaps ahead of him at the moment???

TBM I dont want him to get a call up - look what it did to Shorey when he got his

Royalclapper Lambert is 31 so might not get a cap now.

SPARTA I might be in the minority but I don't want Alfie to get a call up. Yes it would be great for him and exposure for us, but look what happened with Shorey. Shorey was a hard-working down to earth lad who went into the England team and got his head turned by all the high earning egos, and he wasn't the same after that. He felt he outgrew Reading, and I fear the same would happen with Alfie, especially when successful English strikers are always in great demand.
If we went down and he was capped, we would find it very hard to keep him here next season. Of course, my opinion would change if we stayed up and we could reward him with a bumper new deal to fend off a lot of the bigger clubs interest.
