I think he's going to go relatively attacking for the first game, I can't see a 4-5-1.

GK - Taylor
RB - Kelly
LB - Shorey
CB - Mariappa
CB - Pearce
RM - McCleary
LM - McAnuff
CM - Karacan
CM - Guthrie
ST - Pogrebnyak
ST - Hunt

SCIAG Good way of telling if someone is a numpty: they suggest playing HRK behind the striker again and again and again. This started before he even broke into the first team. Ffs, he's an excellent young winger, don't ask for him to be played in a position he's clearly not suited to.

I agree with SPARTA's line up.

I think the reason is purely because he has an eye for goal. Watched the Wales game the other day and he played very well holding up the ball, and scored a lovely header. When Scotland got a player sent off he was in the middle, almost as a striker a fair bit (not sure if he was played as the striker?).

Regardless, he's starting tonight and it's well worth a watch (Gunter too).

Its no more ridiculous than playing McAnuff there, he has all the attributes to play CAM and thirdly I would have my three wingers playing a bit dynamic, as opposed to rigidly staying on the one side they been allocated!

HRK probably has the best first touch out of our wingers, he has strength and mobility, he has an excellent turn and can make a pass.

Not only that he is evidently a good finisher and header of the ball so arriving late in the box could be effective. Nobody has seen him in that position so YES I would question his positional skills and vision.

I've been advocating he could play there for ages so I ain't going stop!

I'm guessing he won't be looking to stamp his mark until Southampton and without the benefit of much coaching time until Saturday will largely go with the tried and (un)trusted, thus

Taylor
Kelly Mapps Pearce Shorey
McLeary McAnuff Karacan (?) HRK
Pog

Kebe is bound to still be injured as usual.
Guthrie won't be risked with hardly any game time this season
Might be tempted to put Feds back in if his broken toe nail is fixed

Pretty much as Sparta then I guess.

Just writing this shows what a dilemma Adkins has. There is little/no serious/winnable options or alternatives.

When has Jobi ever played in behind the striker? He's slotted into CM but has never, as far as I'm aware, played just behind the striker.

I'll be very surprised if we play 4-4-1 at Arsenal.

SCIAG Good way of telling if someone is a numpty:

"..they're delighted with the new manager who is nothing but a sideways tradein of a gray Ford Focus for a charcoal Ford Focus."

To be fair, charcoal would be a much better choice. Grey is so meh.

Royal91 Assuming our squad is fully fit apart from Feds

================Taylor=================

McCarthy has played two U21 games and is fully fit. Taylor comes straight out.

He's the best goalscorer of all our wingers. He thinks of himself as more of a forward than a winger. He's weaker at supporting his full back in defence, up the pitch in the middle tracking back is less of an issue, chasing centrebacks is more important. I'm inclined to agree he's more likely to succeed there than the others in anything other than the immediate short-term.

Does it matter who we play?

Listening to R5Lie yesterday when Richard Bacon was teasing someone who is a Gooner about sacking Wenger he asked what would happen if they lost to Reading as they are not a real football team!

So lets just play in virtual reality if we are not real then we can have Messi et al playing for us.

Spot on. That's the worst Reading team I can think of.

We will see basically the same team as with BM, but passing the ball instead of hoofing. Dolan got them doing it for a game, I expect Adkins to continue it. Unleash the Kebe.
