Simon's Church
Rollerbob Surely it's down to whether Mr. Poyet thinks he can take Brighton up this season or next?

If they stay down, our budget will be more than Brighton's (surely), with higher expectations/more ambition - so he's more likely to get promotion with us - unless of course, he thinks next season will be their year.

What was our budget last time we went down? About minus £5m wasn't it?

Yeah, but last time we went down, we didn't have an unhappy owner with lots of money.

How much money does Anton have and what are his levels of happiness?

Cobi Poyet - but my concern is he will only be here a short while if he's a success, and then jump ship for a bigger job. The media love him, and it wont be long before he's offered something much bigger.

Adkins - he would be more long term IMO, and also plays a good brand of football.

Flip a coin, I'll take either. But I can see us looking for a new manager in 2 years time when Poyet jumps ship to Spurs…

Irrelevant as it is extremely rare for any manager to last more than 2 years these days. If he took us back to the PL and we had a good season there, he will be off to a bigger job. That's just the reality.

poyetryinmotion I doubt many managers would've been able to attract such established players as Vicente, Wayne Bridge, Matty Upson and PIG to Brighton. Gus is very persuasive!

Upson and Bridge aren't good enough for the prem anymore, so really their options were limited. I have no idea who 'PIG' is, or most of the rest of your squad in fact.

Don't really care if we get Poyet or not. If he's prepared to leave Brighton for us at the moment I think he's mad, and showing a lack of ambition to finish the job at Brighton. It would be funny, however, as the only interaction I've ever had with Brighton fans involves them talking about how absolutely MASSIVE they are and how Reading are a tin pot club, despite us finishing above them for 19 out of the last 20 seasons.

Don't understand all that chatter that Poyet can attract a better class of player. Where's the evidence?

Plus really do not see how Poyet would think we are a better proposition than BHA. They seem to have all the necessities now in place for development and progression.

Hi there. Brighton fan here.

Who did these players turn down to join Brighton?

PIG came from Watford, Bridgey from Man City, Matty Upson from Stoke and The Dagger ( Vicente ) from Valencia. I'm pretty certain our manager prior to GP, Russel Slade ( nice bloke though he is ), wouldn't have attracted these sort of players. Obviously, our stadium and chairman have helped enormously, but a lot of credit has to go to Gus.

Adkins and poyet both got their teams out of league 1

Adkins then got his team straight into the Prem ... Poyet is still trying to achieve this.

So how is poyet better than Adkins exactly?

But I don't know how much each spent or what the wage bills are. Anyone know?

Brighton spent more money and had a higher wage bill than Southampton for their first year back in the Championship.

im concerened we seem to be getting in 1 of two manegers who at best have a record not quite as good as brians in the championship
either will be decent, but as good as brian? not really sure.
but we move on.....

personally if i had to pick someoneid prefer blanc or enrique
someone young and ambitious with a big name
but i cant see either happening.

Really? The transfer fee's doesn't surprise me that much as they obviously spunked a fair amount on Makail-Smith alone, but for their wage bill to surpass Southamptons I'd be a little surprised as the season before Southamptons was almost double Brightons.

I guess to an extent Southampton had a better base to start from considering they'd recently come down from the Championship and have one of the best academy's producing a number of their better players. Brighton on the othe hand were coming from almost getting relegate to League 2 and with a squad in need of serious improvement.

The job Poyet has done is very good. Adkins probably had a better starting point but also did well of course.

So, 55% of you want the man with one promotion under his belt, as opposed to the man with 4 promotions.

Ok then.
