Got 25/1 on a Reading vs Leeds Play-off final and 11/4 on Reading promotion...

25/1 on two specific teams to be in the play-off final seems extremely poor odds to me.

Our main rivals will be at least another 10 clubs - with 5 others, at least, following closely......

This season's championship playoffs...

by mikey0406 » 10 May 2013 20:18

I sat and watched the Leicester game with watford last night and so far watched 20 minutes of tonights game and we should smash the league next season. there really is a significant lack of quality in the league with a lot of 'hoof' ball being played. we will have such a talented young squad next season and i have no worries about us bouncing back straight away!

I've watched a bit of the championship. There have been fifteen teams better than us this year. Watford, especially, are in a different league.

Well, if they win the playoffs they will be.

Based on last nights and tonights play offs, nothing could be further from the truth. Countless sitters being missed and poor passing very evident from all four teams.

Both play-off semis have been crap.
On the last day of the Champ season when it was revealed none of Hull's players got into double figures for goals, I chuckled at the Hull fans naivety when running on the pitch as the commentator claimed "It's been a team effort".

Realistically, there is no teams that Reading should fear next season. The West Ham team that we did the double over last time, when winning the league, had much more quality than any of the current Championship teams.

Now that I look, even Cardiff didn't have a player that got over 10 goals.

I'm confident, but still think reaching the play offs would be a good season. I also think we need someone like Wigan or Norwich to go down with us, as soon as Newcastle/Sunderland found some belief and form they would smash that league.

Agree about Sunderland and Newcastle.

Disagree about Norwich though. Their team is essentially a Championship dream team: the likes of Ruddy, Howson, Snodgrass, Johnson, Becchio, Hoolahan, Holt and Pilkington could all potentially get into a Championship Best X1 (plus James Vaughan who's had a good loan season in the Championship). If Norwich went down they'd have a ready made quality Championship team.

If Wigan go down I can see Martinez leaving for a Prem team (maybe Everton who knows). Prem teams (Perhaps Martinez) would also likely poach 2 if not all 3 of McArthur, McCarthy and McManaman. Wigan could potentially be reduced to rubble.

Not seen anything in the championship to worry us. Thought Cardiff deserved to win
It but were underwhelming whilst Hull looked poor. watford pass it around ok in spells but have
lost their fizz in recent weeks and look tired. Brighton are well organised but nothing special. Just a lpt of mediocrity in the league.

If we hold onto to most of our key players we should be challenging for automatic promotion. We will need to move some on and bring in more pace and power. In addition work is needed on the back four as our marking is woeful at times. We are ahead of the game in that NA has had a good look at our squad and should hit the ground running in preseason rather than having to waste time on assessing. We need to promote more academy kids into the firat team.

A lot of work to do yes but feel confident we can challenge.

As Reading fans we should know that teams playing hoofball will win a lot games (i.e. us getting promoted last year) and although it'll be more entertaining to watch us now, it won't guarantee us anything.

ooooof... I sense some hubris.

Looking at the Championship, there's all 4 of the playoff teams who would justifiably feel as though they should be in the top 6 next year, then you've got the likes of Forest and Leeds who are often there or thereabouts, then there's Bolton, Burnley, Blackpool and Blackburn who have recently been in the top flight and will feel (as we did for the years after our relegation) that this could be the season they get back up there. Not to mention whoever else comes down with us and QPR.

Can't see Doncaster being much to worry about, Bournemouth are an unknown entity and Yeovil/Brentford should be manageable. Nonetheless, it's a helluva tight league. Yes, one or two teams often run away with it, but it can be pretty unpredictable.

Anyone basing a judgement of the overall quality of the Championship on a couple of first-leg cup ties would be an idiot though. Probably the same sort of person that would arrogantly chastise those of us that pointed out in the Autumn that relegation was a foregone conclusion.......

Listening to the game on the radio and hearing the commentators bigging up Kevin PhiLOLOLips and Aaron Wilbraham, Norwich reject, couldn't help musing that we ought to do very well in that division next season.
