Tbf Winchy, you'd get excited if the club announced a new flavour of soup available in the concourse and spin it as some momentous positive 8)

He's a steady eddie, not unhappy with that. Nothing on www.readingfc.co.uk yet though :!: He scored against us last season and then crashed into the hoardings celebrating, which already makes him a legend in my book

And you'd find some witty negative remark to make about us winning the CL.

When the inevitable happens I think we'll balance each other out perfectly x

Split second l8r.....the fourth gr8est example of stacking it the Madj has ever seen.

(Top 3: Norwich fan falling down the stairs celebr8ing; Darlington fan invading the pitch and being chased back to the away end and slipping on the perimeter track and ploughing feet first into the hoardings  ; Reading 4-0 Arsenal/Reading 5-7 Arsenal).

If (and hopefully when) this is confirmed, it will be an incredible signing given the current state of the team following Jem's injury.

Baird is a player who can play all along the back-line which is a bonus itself but, at this level, I think he'd be particularly effective in a holding midfield role. He keeps the ball well, has strong awareness, is neat and tidy, and has a hell of a shot on him when he gets forward. We'd suddenly have two players (in Baird and Guthrie) who can receive the ball into them, turn, and get us playing further up the pitch. That alone makes us more versatile and less predictable.

Have to say I would have been :D at this signing even in the Summer. Have spoken to a few Fulham fans I know, and they said he was class. Not that pacy, but excellent range and accuracy of passing. They also said he had a really hard shot, and was popping up with a few shots from long range the last few seasons. They were pretty disappointed he went, as apparently him and Jol didn't see eye to eye.

As far as wages go, I have the feeling that QPR's offer was not exceptional, and we just outbid them. Not to mention you do gte the impression that anyone who is not proper PL material will be out the door as soon as QPR go up. They really have not learnt anything about building a team spirit and ethos.

Not a priority for me, need a striker and to be able to start scoring goals.

Who's to say Baird won't get us those goals?

His mum. She has that written on the wall in the living room in lipstick. She's mental, but she knows her goalscorers.

Don't totally agree. We've needed cover since Mariappa went, and I'm not sure Gorkss would be it. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if he covers JK's injury.

Cover for the first 11 is less of a priority than players for the first 11.

I wouldn't be totally surprised to see Baird become a first XI player.

Just a tiny bit surprised. Letting off a soft but audible "oooo". About the same volume as a pigeon in the distance.

Could be a bit like the Legs signing a few seasons ago, when everyone was pretty underwhelmed when it happened .... but quickly changed their mind! Here's me hoping.

Unless we are going to play him up front, I'm not really fussed.

I must admit I am a little bit excited about this signing, more than I would usually be about a free, on how he has been sold to me. It doesn't sound like he is a like for like replacement for Morrison or Pearce (I suppose it could even be argued that they are more alike really), and can bring something different to the team. Nor do I really buy into the 'a striker is a priority' argument, it seems to be creating chances we have been having trouble with, not scoring them (if you only create 2 chances in a game you have to take at least one, whereas if you create 7 or 8 you can miss a few). A defender in this context is a good get, after all, who would want Kaspers replacing Pearce or Morrison? And it will always be harder to win matches if a) your defence is frail and b) you do not create chances. Better to at least have a solid defence and work from there.

Had as good as gone to QPR. Karacan's injury made us push this through and steal a player from under QPRs noses again
