dizzynewheights SJM has spent the last decade telling us he'd only sell to the right person. Dunno why hes getting a pass from the fans for such an obvious monumental fook up.
If we are in a mess. Its his fault.

Royal Biscuitman I'm not going to read though the whole thread, so this may be a Dodd
"Reading: Sir John Madejski says club close to new investment 23rd December 2013"

Unless JM was desperate for the £25m or whatever AZ paid him for the 51% of shares, It makes no sense to me to have sold them to AZ, not as a business deal and not as a moral do the right thing for the fans/town deal.... I hope JM hasn't been taken for a ride and is a lot smarter than any of us give him credit for. Perhaps it would have been smarter to have sold 49% of the shares to AZ and kept 51% until the deal was complete.

My understanding was that SJM was desperate for the cash to bail out his property company before the bank's called in the administrators. The printing business has already gone into administration.Royal Biscuitman Unless JM was desperate for the £25m or whatever AZ paid him for the 51% of shares

SJM did get around 25m. Half was for the shares, the remainder was to repay SJM's loans he had made over the years. This is stated in the club's accounts from last summer. Also, heard about a 5m additional bonus payment

Haag Royal It would have been a lot smarter to have had a clause in the contract that said if AZ did not buy the remainder of the agreed shares by a certain date then the 51% sold to AZ would revert immediately back to SJM. I can imagine this being in any other deal he does in the future......

Uke And if so he has saved Reading town centre, given that his company was doing the redeveloping!
Possibly a bigger legacy than saving a football business

I don't think Sackville is linked with the new station redevelopment plans. It didn't have enough money to push forward on the last set of plans (which Sackville was definitely behind) which is why it still looks like a complete tip down there. Really hate travelling through Reading station every day. it's just depressing.

genome Decent interview with SJM by Dellor after the match today... a brief summary:
- Always on the look for new investors and sounds like something is on the horizon
- Anton still the owner "as such" and he doesn't know when he'll be back
- Confident Anton is committed to RFC and that there is no big problem- There should be funds in January, whether it is Anton's or Sir John's
Reading between the lines Madejski does sound a little uncertain but optimistic, definitely not the shambles some nobbers are making out. We're looking for new investment but I doubt it will mean a change of ownership of the club.
