He had problems. He got himself sorted back in Scotland and then had a reasonable career there.

This has got to four pages and the correct answer still doesn't appear to have been given.

It has to be Shorey, hasnt it?

Almost single handedly took us down. I used to give him the benefit of the doubt and believed that he didnt mean to take us down. But after we amazingly give him another chance, in his return interview he says 'He has a lot to prove' which he proves by making himself unpickable for a season. Quite honestly a disgrace. Twice.

Id also like to mention Cureton. At one point one of the most natural goalscorers we've ever had. Then gets into a spat with Pardew, reacts to be being bettered by Forster by sulking some more; to the point where he cant be bothered to better himself and chucks away his career by sodding off to Korea. With Ian sodding Porterfield. When Sidwell made him look a dick a few years later and got him sent off, I must admit I chuckled a bit. Not enough to hate, but he's such an unlikeable loser.

The only ex Reading player I dislike with a passion that for a time was close to hate is also an ex Manager; Mark McGhee.

I don't think any of the aforementioned (though I could be wrong with Liam Rosenior) slagged the club or its fans off after they left the Royal County - but McGhee did, and in spades, hence my complete dislike of the bloke (regardless of the fact that he actually had the team playing exciting, vibrant and inspirational football).

I worked for a Brighton based company at the time McGhee was manager at Millwall and just before he managed Brighton; one evening, I went for a pizza with female colleague who had "got to know" (if you know what I mean.......er, "allegedly") the at the time married McGhee when she met him at a sport/golf resort in Southern Portugal.........during the meal, he rang her....but hung up pretty quickly when she told him that she was having a pizza with a colleague who was a Reading fan and as I started singing Daydream Believer.......

So McGhee for me.

Good thread.

1) Nick Colgan - Abject performance in an awful 3-0 defeat to Port Vale in about 1997 ruined my Easter
2) Brian Howard - just disgusts me immeasurably
3) Liam Rosenior - Self centred tosser who never delivered against his own hype
4) Dean Morgan - As above
5) Danny Guthrie - Don't care if he's still here or not, he can FOAD

Hated is too strong a word, so I will probably go with irritated or infuriated.......

1. James Lambert. Purely because he looked like he could be somebody, and yet it seemed to depart him.

2. Michael Meaker. The number of times he went down the wing, only to proceed to disappear up his own arse.

3. Simon Sheppard. Do I need to say more? The head that pulsed red as he got more stressed, or his attempt to commit GBH on Darius.

4. Mass Sarr. Managed to achieve a combination of Lambert & Meaker, remember the The Post's splash about his place by the Thames.

5. Nicky Shorey. Is a crime not to give your all for your club and his was more interested in his next move. His return last season was crap too.

I don't hate any players, but ones I wouldn't give the time of day to if I found myself stood next to them in the queue at Tesco include:

Matt Mills - for his actions to the fans
Leroy Lita - for dropping Kitson in it
Greg Halford - for being a big time charlie
Danny Guthrie - for refusing to travel
Andy Bernal - for beating around the bush
Byron Glasgow - positive drug test and it wasn't even performance enhancing!
Andy McLaren - positive drug test and it wasn't even performance enhancing!
Mass Sarr - Same as Halford really.

Generally we have had some rubbish players and some players who were overpaid or a bad fit, but if they give 100% I can't blame them, only the manager who signed them without doing his homework.

To be fair, if he had lived up to his potential he wouldn't have played for us.

I forgot he counts as an ex-player.

Totally unrelated (which I add for the benefit of any lawyers reading this), I would add any player/manager/other to the list if they allegedly attempted to offload a toxic investment to players at the club telling them it was going to make them rich, not only because it's underhand but because it would create animosity at the club.

Too true, but it was more the way he pissed away what he had so he wasn't even good enough for us.

And having met him on the Paddington to Reading train a few months ago - he's a complete belmont.
