Apparently, 100% of gay british footballers don't feel they can be open about their sexuality.

That's their choice. Just like being gay.

Of course it is.

If you were prepared to guess, though, it seems reasonable to think that at least some number of them would otherwise prefer to be open - like many gay people in the public eye - but feel discouraged by real or perceived intolerance.

MartinRFC (iirc) posted years ago and I think he was openly gay.

I think there's probably less of a problem than many might think. But the fact there's perceived to be a big problem is an issue. Until there's some openly gay current players its hard to tell.

to be series and tbf not sure why it's necessary to really know the sexuality of someone.

I guess being open and not having to worry and being private and it not mattering is a fine line we still need to get across.

I thought it was rather charitable of Reading FC today to support the anti-homophobia campaign by bending over and repeatedly taking it up the arse.

Pseud O'Nym I'd be amazed to see much more than some mildly camp midfielder in the next window.

On the evidence of this thread some pretty old attitudes still remain

No malicious sentiment exists on my part, and I'm sure that's representative of the majority of posters here. :)

WoodleyRoyal he's Scottish.....
I think he's afraid to come out as Scottish, at least until the club confirm their views on Scots. Currently in the closet as Irish.

Ouroboros Apparently, 100% of gay british footballers don't feel they can be open about their sexuality.

I wonder how they got to that statistic? - I'm sure there must heterosexual British footballers who are also not open.

Of course there is. It's a bigger problem than racism.

C'mon - I bet when lads on here are with their mates and one of them is wearing something pink or slightly feminine' they'll say "You b3nder". Footballers are no different.

Are you suggesting the gays only wear pink?

So you're saying the homophobia in football is between the players - I thought it meant the fans. :|
