maffff So what would the squad look like for next season?

Goalkeepers
Andersen, Henly, Lincoln

Defence
Central
Pearce, Morrison, Hector, Sweeney

Full backs
Obita+, Kelly, Gunter, Cummings, Griffin, Keown, Long,

Midfielders
Central
Williams, Karacan, Akpan, Tshibola, Kuhl, Kelly

Wingers/CAM
Blackman*, Edwards, Tanner

Strikers
Robson-Kanu*, Uwgu, Samuel

* should be positionally inverted imho
+ could be on the wing, hopefully Kelly won't be first choice LB..

+ Others signed

Defence and central midfield, could be ok. Upfront we'd be stuffed. Decent core, but relegation fodder.

That's working on the absolutely worst case scenario with losses of:

Arnold, Baird, Bridge, Carriço, D'Ath, Drenthe, Federici, Gorkss, Guthrie, Le Fondre, McAnuff, McCarthy, McCleary, Pogrebnyak, Roberts, J Taylor, S Taylor

Can only see half of them going tbf, and regardless of what people think of our finances, we'll get a few in over the summer.

I will not be paying £26 to watch that.

Jesus!
Every year since I can remember the club have bought fewer players than we thought we needed or wanted - I see no reason why next year will be any different.
The only definites are Leigertwood and Roberts.
And I really hope McCarthy goes somewhere bigger because he's better than we've seen recently.
Apart from that, probably much the same +/- around 2 players.

I just want to see us balance it out a bit. Less right backs and defensive minded midfielders, and more attack minded midfielders and working strikers. And a walk-in captain, but I've wanted that for what seems 20 years now.

It won't be anything near as harsh as that, but that's those that have been mentioned as possibly leaving.

Personally I expect to see, if we stay down, Arnold, Bridge, Carriço, D'Ath, McCarthy, Roberts, S Taylor. Maybe one or two of Guthrie, McCleary, Pog or ALF to go.

That would give us a reasonable amount of depth, plus you could see us going for a few Adkins players. Wouldn't be shocked to see us back in for Billy Sharp, for instance.

Royal Biscuitman Leave the wages/transfer stuff to the club - Just because a player is on £30k (or whatever) a week that doesn't mean getting rid of them will free up £30k a week to be used on player wages. This isn't football manager, Unless we know all the finances and costs we can't make those decisions.... We might see the Pog go and someone rubbish join in his place.

I want the high earners gone because i would rather see my team free of Admin and points deductions. If "some rubbish" has to join to replace the high earners then so be it.
Ah right, I didn't realise the purpose of rebuilding was just to get the wage bill down and avoid going into administration.

In that case, sell everyone we get an offer for until we have enough in the bank to safeguard our future... while they're at it, increase the price of replica shirts, hot dogs and alcohol.... possibly as a very last resort, match tickets too.

I like to see these go this summer, in this order....

Alfie
Robson-Kanu
Leigertwood
Federici
Guthrie

This is assuming Roberts is offski anyway otherwise he is top of the list.....

Earlier in the season I was thinking "oh shit, if we don't go up we lose ALF, Pog, McCarthy, Guthrie, McCleary........ etc etc."

I'm quickly moving towards a "meh, if we/they aren't good enough, baaiiiiiiiiiiii" mentality.

Players come and go and he's hard to be as attached to a lot of this side as a lot of those from the past. I'm more attached to McCarthy, Pearce, Hector Karacan, Obita, [less so Taylor/HRK] and the lads that come through from the youth.

Plus Gorkss and his majestic beard.
And McAnuff because he gets so much shit despite being decent.
and Morro. aaaaaahhhhh Morro.

For the sake of squad depth you don't really want to see anyone leave, but if it meant getting them replaced with someone better i'd have to say:

1. Kelly
2. Gorkss
3. Karacan
4. Obita
5. McAnuff

If they are going to piss themselves reducing this wage bill, they'd better make sure they reduce the ticket price with it. I'm not paying prem prices to watch our under-21's finish bottom half of the table and neither will many others.

Of course you want some players to leave, they're taking a wage without doing anything to earn it right now and that's a drain on the clubs resources.

I don't think anyone is suggesting shutting the doors and only letting a few unwanted old hasbeens out through them before bolting it up again.

You aren't paying Prem prices. You got Championship football for championship prices in the Premier League last season.
