Id rather we don't make the play offs so we don't have to go through the farcical attempt our team will put on. The sooner we get on with the inevitable summer of sales and prepare for a new generation/era of players, the better

download I think the best thing would be to win the play off final and decided not to take the promotion.

:-) Is that allowed ?

This season has been so ridiculous that if we did make the play-offs, we'd probably win them!

Couple of key points;

We should want to get promoted.
The players don't deserve it, the manager doesn't deserve it, but given we've been royally bummed by our ownership issues it's what every fan should want. None of us have a clue what the Anton situation is, so let's back the one thing that is certain - Premier League = more money and more attractive to potential new buyers.

If we do make the play-offs...
We've beaten Derby and QPR over two legs already this season - Wigan dicked us. Nobody in the Play-offs is coming in with great form (seemingly what always decides it) - so both RTGs and STGs should concede we've got just as much chance of fluking it as the other distinctly mediocre sides do.

Anybody referring to Wembley as "a great day out" should be shot...
It's a great day out up until 14:59. If by some minor miracle we do win the playoff final - it's a great day out. If we lose it's devastating and you've got to go to work in the morning.

There's a lot of nonsense written on here sometimes. The chance of making the play-offs is in our own hands, with 3 games to go (2 against teams with nothing to play for). If we qualify, it isn't obvious that we're any more flawed a team than the other 3, and pretty much anything can happen. So of course we can still go up - why not?

Palace barely scraped in the play-offs last season, and they're well-placed now.

Have to agree. There are plenty of reasons to want to get promoted, but the money alone eliminates any other pros or cons. It's a shit load of money.
Plus we get paid for being in the playoffs. Getting to the final, the loser takes the gate receipts, I think?

Palace went into the play offs in dreadful form...

We need to go up to chose what players stay and go. The only person that really deserves it in my opinion is Adkins - stayed professional throughout.

Having said that, and with my small print at the top of the OP in mind, this chat is all academic...

That's because they signed practically a whole new team. If Reading go up, I can't see us doing that.

All you've got to do is field an ineligible player.

Please please please let us get to the final and win.

Oh please it'll be so much fun spending zero again and watching us get gang rapped week in week out.

It'll be even more fun losing all our players when we come back down and John and Anton pocketing the cash.

Best of all we'll lose a perfectly good manager for not being able to string together a PL side with freebies and spare change and we'll be looking for a new scapegoat all over again.

Pleeeeease let us go up!

Much better than staying in the champ, getting rid of deadwood and those who don't want to be here, letting Adkins build a decent side like Southampton and going up with an awesome team in 2-3 seasons time....

We never limp up into the play offs, we won't make it. We only limp down into them after bottling the auto places.

How anyone can turn down a chance of getting promoted to the premier league is beyond me. The financial benefits alone are a great reason on why we should want to go up.

All of this rebuild in the championship for 2 years and then get promoted is utter nonsense. Who knows what is around the corner if we fail to miss out on promotion this year who is to say we have the guarantee of getting promoted 2 years on, it doesn't work like that, for all we know we could be drifting around the bottom of the table in a similar position to teams such as Blackpool, Bolton etc who probably also had the same thought of rebuilding and then go for promotion when they are "ready"

We'll end up getting all the way to Wembley and then turn in a truly awful performance and get thrashed 6-0.

I agree....let the misery end now please.

Win the playoffs, sell everyone off and let the U21's and anyone on a reasonable wage play next year. Yes we would get thrashed and yes we would go down again but the experience would be invaluable for our younger players and the bottom line would be solidly in the black.

It's as if everyone wants to avoid 6th place. Come 2.15 on the 3rd I can just imagine some team realising they've not lost badly enough and being gutted at having to play Derby at home when they could have been on the beach.

Remaining games are:
Brighton have Yeovil (h) & Forest (a) currently 66 pts & +12 Goal Difference
Forest have Bournemouth (a) & Brighton (h) 65 & +7
Ipswich have Burnley (a) & Sheff Wed (h) 65 & +6
Urz (Boro, Donny, Burnley) 64 & +10
Blackburn have Charlton (a) & Wigan (h) 64 & +5
Bournemouth have Forest (h) & Millwall (a) 63 & -1

I can see 2 wins and a draw being enough for us to come 6th. The maths is the easy bit. The belief that we can secure those 7 points is the hard part. Stranger things have happened.
