I remember at one point we tried to pinch Zamora off them.
Maybe when Coppell first got to Reading.
That probably pissed them off as well.

I remember an away at their crumby temporary stadium that they moved to the Friday night before Christmas, so had to take a day off to avoid getting stuck on the M25. Got there to find out they postponed the game because Zamora had stubbed his toe. Might have been a bit peeved with them then.

Rearranged game was fitted into a week where we had 4 games (including Swindon away on Valentine's night) so our automatic promotion challenge ran out of steam. A rainy February Monday(?) I seem to recall. Still, it's the only place I've seen complimentary hand towels handed out on entry so you can dry your seat in the uncovered stand. Nice!

Mid Sussex Royal I have had the misfortune of working with Brighton fans recently and most have a strange hatred of us and and inflated opinion of their club.

The RFC thing is recent and stems back to us nicking Coppell and Sidwell (he was on loan there when we signed him from Arsenal - they bid £100k I believe) and a couple of others - Kitson may have been one.

I hope they never get in the Premier league

Hadn't they themselves nicked those in question off Brentford?

Hundreds of Reading fans walking around Brighton's grass verges muttering "this would take stud, easy". Frozen pitch? Chinny reckon! (not sure how you punctuate that seventies playground statement of utter disbelief).

I would do anything to beat Brighton, really don't like them and do actually consider them to be our biggest rivals ATM

In football terms, I can't imagine much worse than this

Most Brighton fans don't hate us for nicking Coppell or having Adkins. It was Jason Roberts and more recently Drenthe's performances against them that they hate.

If I were to sink to their level, I would suggest it stems from the 1920s. Back then, the Southern League clubs had recently merged into the Football league and "1901 Albion", as I call them, were fiercely competitive, challenging at the top of the Third Division (South) for most of the decade. Presumably we used to greet these 20th century "newbies" in time honoured fashion. The last straw was surely our title glory in 1926, followed by our run to the Fa Cup semis the following season, confirming to Brighton fans that 19th century clubs were not only bigger, but better. Their occasional success (first of us to reach the top division, pipping us to the division two title) has meant that rather than indulge in self-pity, they have puffed out their chests and attempted to talk themselves up. Their regular tragedies, such as losing their stadium and playing in a park more suited to shotput have only made this exaggeration more farcial and aggressive. My favourite example was during Poyet-gate, when a Brighton fan suggested that Brightons' proximity to London would keep Gus there over Reading... Clearly not a fan of the old railway joke, "Whats the only Great thing to come out of Reading"...

But rather than sink to their level, anymore, I must admit I have never met a Brighton fan I didn't get on with. We have a lot in common with them in terms of club and town size and being a non-London Southern club in a Northern/London league. Butt for a few more gays and greens and a ten year delay on a plastic out of town stadium, we would be them. Good luck to whoever represents southern (non London) England in the playoffs.

Don't hate any other clubs, not sure why I would. However, some teams do appear to a have a more vocal number of mongs than others, including Brighton, Portsmouth Cardiff and West Ham. We could probably be added to that list too to be honest, but our mongs are largely inoffensive despite their best efforts.

Would be great for Drenthe to see of Burnley.

I don't remember much from the league game, but from what I do remember the fans and stewards were all class to chat to, so no problems there. The police were very arsey though. Lots and lots of good beer though so it's all good with me!

Why would Brighton want promotion ? .Their supporters will be even more ridiculed in the Premier League.

If I had to say one club was bigger than the other, I would probably have to say that Brighton are slightly bigger, purely based on home/away numbers.

But that said, there really isn't anything in it. Neither of us have had any historical success or any great periods in history.

I would have to say that we have had the better of the past 10 years though, including 3 years in the prem and a couple of FA Cup QF's.

If they get the last play off place, then good luck to them as I would rather them than QPR.

They get more fans going to games, this much is true. However, many clubs have attendances in excess of our own - yet never find the need to call us silly names at every available opportunity. I suspect probably because they can't pick on Palace for the foreseeable future...

I don't dislike Brighton. I see them as a younger cousin that wants a bit of attention and occasionally beats you at Battleships.
