blueroyals Don't forget Adkins will have some say in who got released - he'll have been keen to finally get rid of some players who don't fit his style of play..

Really?
I think the club ditched everyone out of contract over 25 and told the manager that it needed to do this as we don't have the money.
If we didn't have the parachute payments I think we would be fooked, as it stands now we may just get away for a couple of years playing the kids and hoping for a new owner.
At least we have some decent kids - it could be a lot worse.

Oh yeah, some say/choice I bet. Pretty sure he will have been told he has to make some massive financial savings, which meant that it was inevitable that he would have to lose some players that he really wanted to keep (particularly given the fact he will struggle to offload the likes of Drenthe). I suspect that, as a consequence, the say he had was like having to chose which of your children to give up.

In what way do you think that McAnuff and Ledge don't fit Adkins style of play?

And if Adkins has released players on the promise of replacements, I would like to remind him that the Chairman promised that there would be funding available in the January window - I believe the new term is a 'Cledge'

RB

Being brutally honest, I don't reckon Adkins will be that bothered about Jobi going.

Lovely hot donuts! Obviously annoying that all the above players may have to leave but, with them being older players, I'm not going to lose to much sleep on the basis that it would be exciting to see young players coming through.
HOWEVER, Michael Hector, Jake Taylor, Nick Arnold, Niall Keown, Aaron Tshibola, Shepherd Murombedzi,Tarique Fosu, Stuart Moore, Dan Lincoln, Sean Long, Jake Cooper, Matt Partridge, Pierce Sweeney, Shane Griffin, Gozie Ugwu & Lawson D'ath will all be out of contract in a few weeks. This is much more of a concern. I know it will be easier to give the younger players new contracts but nevertheless, if we can't give Chris Baird a four month deal, I can't help but be sceptical as to whether or not we will be able to hold onto all these young players - many of whom are highly rated. I would be really upset if the ownership situation meant we had this good group of youngsters taken away from us and we couldn't even have them to fall back on.

The reading website says the following

During the course of this season, Academy players Aaron Kuhl, Jack Stacey, Liam Kelly and Dominic Hyam all signed professional deals at the club. Fellow Under 21 players Craig Tanner, Niall Keown, Pierce Sweeney, Tariqe Fosu and Jake Cooper are among those already secured on professional contracts.

Im assuming its just players like arnold, partridge, murumbedzi and tish who are out of contract then.

Ascotexgunner
St. Brynjar Really pleased Ledge got back in the team for a couple games. He must have been so determined to avoid the last memory of him in a Reading shirt to be being booed off in Brian's last game.

Sad to see Gorkss go - despite the hate he gets on here he put in a fair few decent shifts in this season. Without him there's no way we would have won the league.

Mixed feelings about Jobi. On one hand, he's shown no signs of being inadequate at this level, and it's always sad to see a captain go. On the other, it's good for him to leave before the memories sour.

Not too fussed about Bridge and Taylor. Bridge was decent enough before his injury. His experience will be missed, his wages won't.

Cheers to all!

Wonder what wages Jobi and Ledge were on. £15-20k?

Absolutely gutted to say bye to Jobi, Ledge and Gorkss, 3 players I will always fondly remember for many reasons. Thought all, maybe with the exception of Gorkss, had another season or two in them for us. Really not surprised to see them go though, but it is a sad day.

Shame to see Taylor and Bridge go to, both had a couple of good games for us, but nothing really lost there.

I'm afraid I can't see this being the end though, and with no real money to bring in any replacements, I'm worried for next season. Surprised we're even talking to the younger players tbh, was expecting everyone out of contract to move on.

Well if we don't then we wouldn't get any compensation for them either. As long as we offer them a deal that is at least the same as the deal that is expiring then we will get compensation if they sign for someone else.

McAnuff being released is a surprise to me the others not.

I would have kept McAnuff as his experience would have have helped develop some the good youngster we have coming through.

Including Roberts in this clear our we must be saving 100k+ a week now. Roughly bringing the wage bill down by like what, 20-30%. Good work by the club.

Like most have said in this thread, sorry to see the three main players leave.

Not too surprised by Gorkss, reduced to third choice really, albeit a fairly solid one for the most part.
McAnuff and Ledge I am slightly surprised by, as they are likely to still be first team players, but I suspect would have got no more than one year with us even if they were offered deals.
We've not seen much of Bridge, and with his retirement is no real surprise. As for Taylor, did he actually play for us, even a cup tie?

Looks like we'll see a lot of youth next season - could be exciting to watch!
