The difference of opinion between RFC fans can be put down to those who followed the club pre-2006 and those after.
The pre-2006 fans remember how we were, how close we were to merging with Oxford, how we relied totally on free transfers.
The new fans seem to think that ensuring the financial stability of the club shows a lack of ambition. The boom and bust era (Portsmouth, Southampton, Rangers) is hopefully over. Clubs have to be more frugal. Look at Blackpool FFS! Yes, we lost 3 good players, although we've appeased the tax man and written off some debt. We've still got a very good 'keeper. I admit we're light at center back, but hopefully Ferdinand can fill that void, and i don't think Adkins was going to play ALF much anyway.
We'll probably finish in mid table this season, and i'd settle for that given how close we were to starting on -10 points and probably getting relegated.

Grotesque level of spending in the most recent transfer window suggests not. One of the teams currently below us in the Championship has spent £11 million this summer on one player. So I fear that your optimism is unfounded.

I'm afraid that's absolute nonsense as demonstrated on here every day.

Those that were there in the 1970's and before...have very different standards of acceptability and patience regarding Reading FC

Those that follow these dates seem to be more interested in their own agendas to pursue.

It's just not true though. Some of the biggest whingers on here have been following the club for decades. SDR, Woodcote, Tamworth to name but a few of the more strident ones.

Floyd's been very critical over the last few years and he goes back to at least the 90s.

How long you've been a fan has nothing to do with whether you're happy with how the club is run.

Who is going to be first to go under? Can only be a matter of time.

I would like to think I am old and realistic, as ever we need to stand and operate within our means. So as income increase I hope that we rise in position within the leagues. Currently we are a mid to play off championship level club. The only way to become lower premier is to increase income. Much of this is television money, but alongside that is generated income. Which is why I still want to see the ground expanded, and the fanbase increase when that has happened.
Generated income remains.at a well supported clubs then again nothing is guaranteed and alongside is required sensible management and guiding of the club.
