Angry Shed Sex Right at the end. I spent much of my time tutting loudly and pressing the FF button. Sky used to have a programme with just the goals in it. I think I like that the best.

Does anyone know of a way to download the highlights from player.readingfc ? I live in Nepal and the internet is shockingly slow. It won't allow for buffering really so it's impossible to watch. Usually if there was something on YouTube I wanted to watch I'd need to download it so I can watch it uninterrupted.

What a load of sh1t, I don't remember the BBC stopping halfway though for a lottery draw and what's with showing the games out of order?
That African Violet away kit doesn't help much when fast forwarding to find the Reading game, I got to the end of the show without spotting our game and had to rewind. It just doesn't stand out on tv. Of course, had the BBC been showing the highlights I would have seen a big Reading and Birmingham badge on the screen just before the game telling me when to press play.

Why didn't you just go onto Youtube and watch the highlights on there, if all you wanted to do was see the Reading goals?!

Read the Football on 5 Facebook page (and comment), the show's getting absolutely hammered by fans from all corners of the football league.

Most of you have covered my thoughts on it already, but needless to say, if Channel 5 want to retain an audience for this new programme they'll need to change the format, and fast.

Someone liked it!

Channel 5 debuted their new Football League show and it went well

With its production team working as fast as an F1 pit crew, presenters Kelly Cates and George Riley confidently steered us through a programme that left the viewer exhausted, never mind the workers.

But it was a good first effort. Cates is underrated. Knowledgeable and unerringly cheerful, you feel the programme is in safe hands. And Riley, a fresh face to TV, has solid radio experience behind him.

The Mission: to show every goal scored in the Football League that day. I' m sure they did it and the action, cut in bite-size chunks really did zing along.

This is a 'walk and talk' show. And the studio set has its traps. They may need to be looked at so that the show's presenters compete against 'Casualty' rather than end up in it.

Not everything worked. The studio audience are part of the show but looked on awkwardly – which, in turn, makes it uncomfortable for the viewer. There was one odd moment when Cates delivered a link to camera with a guy in a cap alongside her staring down the same lens.

Ex-Brighton defender Adam Virgo added genuine insight, lively studio guest Barnet manager Martin Allen, added tales from the touchline. We probably could have done with seeing Reading's Aaron Tshibola's over the line 'goal' again. But as a first show Channel 5 should be pleased.

better than the BBC imo
no manish, no Clem, no claridge

annoying that u have to sit through lower league stuff to see all the championship, but its on earlier, so its not so bad.
annoying they spent twenty minutes talking about how the show works before playing any games
a few format tweaks will make it more bearable

in short, ok

Brian Barwick, as in the ex-FA man and Liverpool supporter?

Yeah, i'd just his judgement of what a lower-division fan might think about the C5 format.

It's chaotic, cringey nonsense. The BBC made the same mistake of trying to fit as many cliches as possible into a 90 minute program, rather than just showing as much football as possible which is what the vast majority of people who tune in want to see.

The Sky's version yesterday evening ('FL72 goals') gets it absolutely bang on. Just a shame they don't have the rights to do their own show on a Saturday evening.

And seriously, what is the obsession these days with studio audiences? It makes the whole thing just feel awkward.

I'd rather watch a no studio affair. Just match highlights with commentary and a voice-over to explain changes in the table at the end. No-one is tuning in for studio based joviality or entertainment. Simple

Appreciate that it was the first show, but it was awful.

Some particular lowlights:

Whoever came up with the idea that the Championship highlights should be split between Leagues 1 and 2 needs to be told to grow up; presumably if Channel 5 had the highlights to ALL football then they would leave Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City to the last spots as well?? Nah - thought not....

The studio audience were an utter waste of space; just get rid of.

A lot of football fans aren't going to be sitting down for a whole 90 mins at 9pm on a Sat night, and will video the show, fast forwarding until they see their team - an intro before each game of both sides club badges was an excellent way of breaking the games up and needs to be adopted.

If you are going to have "experts" then lets hear their views on issues that the football brought up; maybe a view on contentious issues or on new players into teams and how/why they might help their new side? In fact, anything other than the usual dull anodyne tripe that was dished out.

There was absolutely no narrative and no sense to the running order (surely the first game should have been MK Dons winning 4-1 away from home in their first game at this level, followed possibly by Charlton beating the very fancied QPR?); as the season goes on, the top teams in each division should be shown first, but until things settle down I would have thought that showing the best results/most interesting games would have come first?

Finally, there was one massively contentious issue - ironically it involved us, but regardless, surely a programme like this could have investigated the incident of whether Tish's shot crossed the line or not rather than simply suggest that they would have to have a few looks at it later (and not discuss it), and then broaden it out into a debate about instigating the same goal line technology as is available in the Premier League, especially as the financial implications for dropping 2 points could be huge at the end of the season?

All in all, a pretty poor first effort I thought.

The format should be something like this:

Championship
1 main game - extended highlights
little chat with the "pro" about the key points in that game
the rest of the goals from the Championship

League One
1 main game - extended highlights
little chat with the "pro" about the key points in that game
the rest of the goals from the League One

League Two
1 main game - extended highlights
little chat with the "pro" about the key points in that game
the rest of the goals from the League Two

Show the tables and maybe a "best bits from the weekend"

End

If I have time I like to watch the whole show (well I did when it was on the BBC), if not enough time just the Reading game.

I liked the one from the Wolves - Edwards scored with a handball but it was hard to see from the normal speed angle. They, well, they just showed it again, with no attempt to make it clearer.

I never understood the need for the "pro's insight". I'd much rather see 5 mins more action from each division. Seeing the goals is not highlights, it's just goals

I also didn't catch Reading as I assumed we'd been on earlier.
