Fantastic stat work as always The Cube, but am I reading this right, Reading haven't won their first 3 games of the season since 1985? Thats seems mental.

Not that much when you think about it. It probably only happens every 15-20 years for your average club.

Would feel a bit cheated if it did happen.. Didnt they spend 50 million on new players? How much did Coppell spend? 2?

After the next game in this stage of the season we won 16 out of 20 league games including 10 in a row. So we hadn't really hit stride at this point.

I would be surprised if it did happen, considering their shaky start. They'd have to really go some.

They made a profit of about £30m on players this summer, it's a fair point though, they have sold their better players for a lot of money, players who really shouldn't have got Newcastle relegated, they have then strengthened by spending a lot of money on what are some of the best in the Championship, thanks to their player sales and parachute payments as well as by being the largest club in the division.

All in all, if they do beat 106 it will be a testament to what it took to beat it because as you say, their resources compared to the 106 side are so much higher.

I did see the profit but dismissed it as Sissoko was sold for 30 million on deadline day which we all agree is ridiculous money.

You make the point I had not thought to vocalise very well. They shouldnt have been relegated with the team they had and then proceeded to take the piss with transfer money.

One of the Newcastle fans thinks they wont do it due to the league being much better than it was in 2005/6... The word scaling comes to mind.

I was thinking this the other day; that we're on track to challenge it at least. Reading's achievement was something seriously impressive and I think it would send a big message if we could beat it

Unsure about this; Reading were relegated in there 2nd season after being promoted. Once back in the PL points records in the Championship mean nothing

Newcastle are one of the better contenders for a while and if they get it then of course they'll utterly deserve it.

Lolly @ the idea they'll 'smash' it though. And they've already lost more games than we did

It can't be as big an achievement for any club recently relegated from the Prem though, the playing field is far from level.

Especially for a team that should have been nowhere near relegation if they'd had any bottle.

Good luck to them. They'll need it.
