tmesis This very same cup, in it's earlier names (Freight Rover Trophy?) had a group stage.

That was how Aldershot managed to progress to the 2nd round of the cup one year despite losing 10-1 at Southend in their first match. They then went on to beat us 3-1 in their second group game. We lost 0-4 to Southend in our home game.

Yep. Southend played both their games first, so we only needed a draw at the Wreck as two out of the three went through. My abiding memories of my only visit to that hole were of a bunch of meatheads threatening us from the other side of the 18 foot fence in the barrel stand behind the goal, and Martin Hicks' superb headed own goal to seal Aldershot's win.

Probably locally based squaddie meatheads really that came out of the woodwork for Aldershots big games. In a similar way to Oxford getting a helping hand from residents of the Blackbird Leys estate occasionally when we played them.

Whatever happened to Aldershot?

They're just outside the National League play-offs, they got smashed last night by leaders Forest Green after having a 17th minute sending off.

It was a bit tongue in cheek, but I did see the score from last night. still a moral victory in the second half to keep it goalless. Do they still sing about us, I hope so, because it's quite sweet that they still care.

You know, I could ask my Aunt, last time I checked she still goes to all Aldershot home games and I believe, most of the away games.

Does anyone have the video of the Aldershot parade for winning a cup/promotion, the one with Brian Potter in it
