Platypuss Our first team squad seemed to manage OK playing 46 games last season - what would be the problem with doing the same this season?

What about glory? Is every season only going to be about going for 17th?

surely because the games are harder and take more out of the players physically. They are playing agianst better teams and have to chase posetion a lot, they're probably not far off working twice as hard as last year in some games.

Er, yes, because we fielded a reserve side for the cups.

I hope every season isn't about going for survival, but this one is.

Erm:

Championship: 46 games
Premiership: 38 games.

There is also when the games are scheduled. These cup games are always midweek when we have an important fixture at the weekend. These cup matches also have the possibility of going to extra. I would rather we go to Portsmouth with the strongest team available than one that could contain knocks picked up in midweek and more tired players.

It's Coppell's decision, like it or lump it chum.

I'm not bothered in the slightest about the League Cup and our supposed 'Glory' in it.

It's a Mickey Mouse Cup which had it's day in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Also, in regards to games played, some of the 1st team players will play a fair few more than 38 games this season.

Championship - strolled with large amounts of posession
Premiership - struggling and chasing the ball a lot.

nice to see no one has actually given any consideration to the fact the games are harder and take more out of the players, just dismissed what i put forward because I used a little exaggeration.

Nothing wrong with using your first team squad that arn't neccessarily playing first team football in the cup. It's not like it was really that much of a reserve side.

I agree with Ian Royal here. You can see when the players leave the pitch at the end of the game they are physically exhausted. The Premiership is faster, stronger and we get much less of the ball and have to do far more chasing. Last season I remember numerous games where our players were comfortably strolling around in the last 10 mins.

Yes we do play less games, but the players are definitely having to work harder. We don't have the squad to give the Carling Cup our full attention.

However, as has been previously mentioned, the FA Cup has Saturdays set aside for it, and we are now out of the Carling Cup so I would be very disappointed if we didn't play a strong side in that tournament.
