79Royal I don't think we need too many players in January for us to start winning matches. If we only got another 7 points by the end of 31st December, I still think we'd be in with an excellent chance of surviving.

Irvinchangeyaname With Man City, Birmingham, West Ham and Spurs being our remaining away games this year, I think the only way we can hope for those 7 points is from our home games. Last year I would have expected a good haul from those games - this year, I can't see past 0 points I'm afraid.

paultheroyalOxon_Royalrg6royal Convey should of came on earlier. Glad doyle got his goal though.
Convey should 'HAVE', FFS (yet another illiterate on HNA).
Does it matter?
Gee whizz.

Actually, yes, it does. I won't bore you with the reasons why as you're attention span will doubtless be tested beyond its endurance.

Welcome to Coppell's mind.

Kevin Doyles Right Foot I know we are playing shite atm, but all we need is a run of decent games under our belt so that we can have a bit of confidence in our playing and actually play good football(like we did at newcastle) after the arsenal game i expect this to happen, and seen as we have been playing shite for most of this season, 12th isnt a bad place to be.

Royalee Agree with AP, Fulham are shite and to get beat there 3-1 was a disgrace. We didn't pass the ball all game and it's not like they're any good offensively, let alone defensively. The second and third goals were shambolic and if we let shite like Davies and Shefki Kuqi run riot then what bloody chance do we have away at the Man City or West Hams of this world?
Although our home form is still decent, Arsenal will be one of few teams this season who will actually take the game to us, which is all you really need to do to beat us. I expect a goalfest come next Monday, and I'm talking more than just three or four, they could quite easily outscore Pompey.

Victor Meldrew Unfortunately Yesterday's result at Newcastle put our win in perspective but having had a bit more time to think about it all I am slightly more optimistic than I felt last night.
Over the years teams like West Ham,Spurs,Villa,City,Everton,'Boro,Pompey,Newcastle and so on have generally survived because they win more of their home matches than they lose which compensate for their dire away records.
In recent years we have been a side that does well away from home and we have got used to it but historically we fell in the same category as these teams.
I can remember going to many away games and expecting to lose and we usually did and this season we are back to how things were.
We CAN survive by winning another 6 or 7 home games and picking up a couple of draws and a surprise away win somewhere as long as
(a)We get back to a passing game
(b)We learn how to block shots and cut out crosses.
Our players need to look at Carvalho to see what blocking is all about-once again we allowed Davies to shoot from distance(we let it happen every week) and although you can get away with this at lower levels the players in the Prem. are quite capable of scoring from distance if they are not closed down.
So wins v Birmingham,Sunderland,'Boro,Bolton,Fulham,Villa and one other COULD be enough but the players need to pass and not surrender possession so readily, concentrate for the full 90 minutes and chase everything as if their lives depend on it.
Then we have a chance regardless of the personnel and maybe if we get into these good habits those odd away points might come.

Mark the player stood on the edge of your box in the first place?!

If you read my original post again, you'll see that I did say that closing him down would help.
