Can you please take your discussion of organic food away from what was an illuminating discussion about Dave Kitson?

Thank you!

no, much higher than that, as we live in the affluent west, and in temperate climate
its the third world that would really suffer when pesticides arent allowed

All of your arguments are correct, but only as of today.

Organic farming has made huge leaps in the last ten years, and there is nothing to suggest that this trend is going to do anything but go on. Give it another ten years and I would suggest that we will be looking at a very different picture.

thing is
any developements in increasing yields for organic farming, through simple farming practice, will also apply to pesticide ridden farming
but even more so

the current yearly percentage increases in population already outstrip even forcasted increases in organic yields, if you take the forecasted increases in population you have no chance.

without pesticides and genetic modification, now, or in the future, half the worlds population starves to death

That would only be accurate were "in-organic" farming to stand still and make no improvement either.

The only sure fire way way to feed the world come climate change is to genetically modify crops so they grow in a near desert environment. I'd really love to see organic methods live up to that. (This is possible btw and i'm fairly certain it is already in the works.)

Dave Kitson “But, look, I walk into our merchandise shop at Reading and I’m amazed at the s*** football clubs manage to sell to their fans. Football is a successful business because people are eternally bound to their clubs. And everyone in this game has their hand out, everyone wants to get rich, while the fans just get poorer. They hook you, then they hook your son, and when they’ve got as much from you as they can get, they go to the Far East for more.

RFC are obviously into irony:

I didn't realise so many Reading fans were country yokels or pikeys but looking at this board I would have to reassess my judgements

but you were getting rightly stuck into the argument, say no to organic farming and of the two theories proposed

1) wait for all cows to be killed so we can sue the land for non-meat farming or
2) just change farming practices completely to arable farming

i support neither

...now returning to Kitser, a great player, a no-bullshit,no spiv/spoof merchantry straight talking guy is refreshing to read yes as some people have said but also could have a damaging effect on a unifying toe the line club work ethic/spirit

so before he tries to project himself as some latter day football thespian let him remember the team coems first and when you get all outspoken like roy keane did with Man Utd then well...then you tend to get the boot so go easy kits coz we need u brutha'

sorry
you missed my pointless editing of your quoted post, in order that i might trick you into starting the farming argument again

and no

the arguments were
1: stop eating/farming meat, freeing up land for farming
only grow/eat organic vegetables pulses and legumes

2:use loads o' pesticides, and genetically modify crops so as to increase yields, in order to feed the worlds hungry.

arable just means farmable
arable land, is land able to support crops
arable farming doesnt make sense

Dragging back onto topic...............

IIRC Kitson has indicated that he wouldn't wish to remain in the game post his playing days. That's a shame because I'm beginning to get the feeling he might have turned into quite a good manager.

His recent comments re the USA/Sonko incident once again seem pretty much spot on.

It shouldn't have been addressed on the pitch but in the dressing room afterwards. He is the only one who has actually come out and said what everyone else was thinking.

arable land is land that is tilled by arabs. An arab can live for a whole year on one grain of rice...
