It's the mark of Harper's importance to this Reading team that when he plays badly, the team play badly. Fulham and Bolton at home were, IMHO, Harper's poorest games this season and both times we looked clueless as a team in possession. You can citicise Harper for playing badly (everyone can have an off day), but he rarely does, and he always gives 100% (which plenty of players did not on Saturday).

Like an earlier poster, I think Coppell fundamentally lost the tactical battle even before kick off. Doyle and Long together upfront was a disastrous choice (particularly the Doyle half of it), he also didn't adjust his tactics when this obviously wasn't working, and failed dismally to put any fire in the bellies of his team, before the game, at half time, or at any other point in the match.

Yes Harper didn't play well - but we had much more fundamental problems.

IMAMATEOFJOVSKY totally overwhelmed by Bullard today - Harper showed what he is - and thats not a premieriship player - toally useless - legend my arse !

From someone who brought us such a clever user name, its amazing what a poorly thought out post this is.

When people speak of someone as a legend (not entirely sure people do about Harps?) it's for the service he has given over a number of years. Your argument surely is whether he is good enough to hold down a place in our Premiership team and not whether this guy has given us his all for several years. He really doesn't deserve quite so much vehemence surely?

That's not a dig at Harper, more that there are threads such as these and people are voting him POTY which shows how shit we must have been.

ap-how many Reading players do you actually rate, if you are comparing them to top 4 standard, then bikey and shorey of last season, other than that they're all shite right, well i've got news for you, we're not top 4 so cut them some slack

Hahnemann, Bikey, Rosenior, Shorey, Matejovsky, Doyle, Kitson, Harper to an extent, Ingimarsson, DLC, Duberry, Lita, Little. is that enough?

Unlike some, my view has been judged on said players performances for Reading and not previous clubs.

DLC has hardly had many bad games for us.
Duberry is a solid defender, has his limitations but i guarantee he wouldn't have been bullied around like Ivar was on saturday.

ya he scored a 30 yard screamer for them at the weekend, why was he never given a chance and is there a 24 hour loan recall option?

Brilliant, do you want me to reel off the games where Harper's been shit this season? It'll amount to more than a freak result against a Liverpool side which gave up after 70 minutes?

Will you include the freak result at Middlesborough, our only win on the road. The winner scored in the dying minutes of a game by a player with a never say die attitude.

Or not?

There is no point in arguing with Royalee. He has a dogma that comes from youthful and intentional avoidance of facts. Possibly why he has ended up at the south coat's finest  educational establishment rather than a truly academic one elsewhere?

Had you been to Middlesbrough and watched just how bad we were that day, you wouldn't be lauding any player's performance that day. Yes, Harper scored the goal, but he was dire for 99% of that game. Not to mention most of the other 16 away games in which we've failed to win.
