Royal Rother 8 wins and 8 draws in 34 games, including wins over Liverpool, Everton and Man City so far would suggest we haven't played dreadfully ALL season.

I think the league table would suggest otherwise.

Huh? So we played dreadfully in the 3 games I picked out did we?

If the seaons was 3 games long and our opposition was the 3 you mentioned, then I would be very happy at the moment,

The teams at the bottom and close to relegation are usually the worst teams in the division. Just remind me where we are in the table again?

Exhibit 'A' , the Premiership League Table. I rest my case

Dirk Gently As I started the previous thread, I'll start this one, in the light of recently changed circumstances

Recently changed circumstances  nice one Dirk! Exactly what changed circumstances would they be then, as if we haven't played dreadfully all season?

I'd say going from 3 wins and a draw from 5 to 2 abject loses is a change in circumstances.

Or did we not get those results after the appalling 8 game losing streak?

I wouldn't be at all surprised the way the season is going, if we beat Arsenal and lose the remaining 3 games, staying up by a single point because someone else loses their last game as well as us.

I think even in our current state we're capable of pulling our finger out and winning any of those games. I'm confident we'll get at least 2 more points. I'm not confident that it'll keep us up.

i think fulham is down, but bolton scares me. i can see them taking something from 3/4.

this weekend is all important, if we can even take a point off arse my confidence will be restored (especially if fulham and bolton both do poorly), if not i fear the drop.

Look, will you stop bringing the league table and a broader spectrum of facts into this debate please, lest you make dear old Rother look daft again :x .

Personally I think the Wigan away game is going to be the game which decides our fate
Forgetting Arsenal I feel if we get a point at Wigan and have our confidence up to play Spurs (which obviously being a bigger club means we play up for the day) with a final win at home and I feel that we'll be safe...only just though

There really is no way we will take any points off Arsenal.

Get real.

My initial response was to the claim that Reading had played dreadfully ALL season. Being of a somewhat pedantic nature (when it suits me), I merely illustrated that statement to be incorrect.

Answer this question: Did we, or did we not play well against Liverpool? If you answer the question honestly then you will be admitting that we have not played dreadfully all season.

There is no other case to rest.

I am sure you will now see that although the fact that we are one of the worst teams in the League is indisputable it is totally irrelevant to the point I made.

I've actually enjoyed watching some of Reading's matches this season, so they can't have been awful all of the time.

The couple of months after Christmas was pretty rough going though, but the league table would suggest that there are, astonishingly, four worse teams than Reading so it's not all bad.

Fresh start in August!

Just as a point of order where does 8 wins, 8 draws come from?

We've had 9 wins, 5 draws and 20 defeats last time I looked.

Tit.

Whilst we won't necessarily have played well in every win and or draw, we haven't necessarily played badly in every loss. We have not been dreadful ALL season.

We have been poor in much of the season, dreadful in some games, unlucky in some, ok in some, good in bits and lucky in places.

Also the League table doesn't say we have been dreadful all season so far either. It says we haven't done very well at all, but that we are not in th eworst 3 teams. Whether that stays the case to the end of the season, is what this whole debate is about.

It might go down to goal difference, in which case we are well and truly stuffed. Brum only need a draw and Bolton a win while we lose to overtake us.

The nightmare scenario of having to go to Derby and win is looking more and more likely too.

No the nightmare scenario would be going to Derby knowing we have no chance of staying up.

On the plus side Bolton go to Boro this weekend without Kevin Davies, Villa and Liverpool still have positions to play for (keep). Next week is again huge with us at Wigwam, but again the sides currently below us have to play sides who still have an interest in beating them (Spurs players have been told today no-one is safe by Ramos and Sven seems to be on rocky ground unless he can impress Thaskin).

Bolton : A v Middlesbrough, A v Tottenham, H v Sunderland, A v Chelsea
Fulham : H v Liverpool, A v Man City, H v Birmingham, A v Portsmouth

____

We will stay up i think and i hope.

The only game i see Bolton winning is the Sunderland game.
For Fulham i can only see them beating Bham.

I can see us getting something from Wigan and Derby and if we put in a good performance we can get something from Spurs.

Sorry guys - anyone who thinks that Liverpool are going to play anything other than virtually a complete 2nd string side after Everton lost to Chelsea last night & left Pool so far clear in 4th (with so few games left) - is totally kidding themselves.

The fact is, you cannot get back to 100% fitness three days after a Prem league match. Now factor in Chelsea are NOT playing at all this weekend and have a long rest before Pool & CFC meet in the CL semi Tuesday night.

There's zero chance that the likes of Gerrard & Torres will be risked so close to such a massive game. If you were a Liverpool fan & a key player got clogged in that game (given the current situation) - then let's face it you would be furious at the manager for risking them.

With things as they are at Pool, Benitez won't give a rats arse what people say about playing a weakened side or where Liverpool are next season (especially if he goes in the current un-rest at the club) - it will all be about the here & now and the glory a 2nd Champions league win (or at least 3rd final) will bring - obviously including his CV here.

Sorry ... but if any of us are honest with ourselves here we should admit that Foolham are going to be playing Liverpool 2nd X1 tomorrow - and we all know what happened last season when the same thing happened!
