That's been my biggest beef over the last two seasons - the senior management team all appear too cosy and complacent and unwilling to challenge each other's (in)decision-making.

Up until today I was firmly in the RTG camp. But I've had enough. We were always going to lose our best players, but to not replace them is suicide. Where has all the money gone? Coppell should have resigned... I hope you clowns are happy...

Alan Partridge Having been fed the ambition line, having lost 3 of our best players, having 2 years of parachute money, having 2 years of Premiership money, having over £9million in fees into the club in the last month, you would be happy with midtable and no more new players because 'well we used to be crap in the 70's'

Where has all the money gone?

I agree with that. We had/have the perfect opportunity to build the good ship RFC.

A fella from Portsmouth who works here commented that when he drives around our town, he now see's loads of kids wearing the club shirt, and they are the next generation of paying punters.

I would NEVER want to see us spend fortunes "chasing the dream" but I will not be convinced that we couldn't have spent more to try and safe guard on PL status.

I think as an outsider looking in, we have a manager too scared to sign the type of player to move us forward, and a chairman who is not prepared to spend the minimum required to give "us a fighting chance".

But hey ho, just my opinion.

Not really. Five of those teams are now in the Premiership or, to put it another way, twenty five per cent of the Prem is made up of teams who were in Div 3 with Reading at the time.

Pardon my ignorance but which '5' are in the premiership now??

Fulham, Stoke, Wigan and Bolton, and he probably counted Birmingham in error.

I was about to post about that. Not only do so many posters lack basic spelling and grammar ability, but we now find evidence that our future statisticians are poor too....

Never let the fact your figures/arguements are meaningless or totally out of context get in the way of a good rant about how rubbish we are.

What caused this knee-jerk? You wake up an RTG and move to "Coppell out!" in the space of a couple of hours on a quiet Friday? Very odd.

We are 1 game in folks. You do make me laugh.

You are acting like spoiled children.

Barney I'll tell you what most people are officially bored of....

1) HobNob

2) The same tedious drivel spouted by the remaining 46 sad 'negatives' that bother
to write rubbish on this board. It's the same stuff.....it's boring.
There are the equivalent of about a coachload of negative, miserable know-alls
whose only intention is to slag off Reading Football Club in some way, shape or form.
Why don't all you sad folks start your own little anti-RFC website and then you
can write to each other until your heart's content.
You could organise little anti-RFC marches, and toodle off down to watch Maidenhead
play.
Why don't you create a breakaway anti-RFC club, and you could have membership, and annual
fund-raising domino evenings. Maybe even a weeks pre-season anti-RFC holiday in Hastings.

And let me take a wild guess at what the response will be too this !!!!
1) The chairman is in it for the cash
2) Hammond has to go
3) Coppell has lost the plot
etc etc boring etc etc boring boring etc etc

Here's a novel idea.....if you don't like it...DON'T GO.

And relax.......

Touche!

I am not saying Coppell out. I am saying he should have resigned at the start of the summer. No point in him going now. Todays - "hunt could be our left back" is the straw that broke the camel's back.

We might be only 1 game in but we are talking about potential winners of the Championship or potential runners up or play-off possibilities, and at the moment we do not look like we have the desire or ambition to fill any of those spots, following on from last years dismal attempt to stay in the premiership. We have made considerable funds from the players that have left, and rumours are circling about Doyle's possible departure as well, most clubs in fact all clubs lose better players but in general terms when this happens they get new blood in or they have an ideal replacement waiting to fill the void, we on the other hand start moving players around, out of position to fll the gaps left. At no point since the turn of the year have Reading made it look like they are a premiership team, either during the end of last season or in the build up to this one. The two competative matches we have played this season so far we have come up well short of what should be expected from a relegated Preiership team, last sunday we looked lost, no passing ability, no drive and no passion, that point cant be contested. Karacan alledgedly played well against Villa but hasn't featured yet, surly he cant still be getting speed up to the pace of the Championship. Our transfer record over recent times has been more than poor, Marek apart, we are buying cheap, second rate players, with minimal ability, Kebe, Cisse, Sodje.....all do not have the level of game to perform at the level we now find ourselves at, and more names could be addeed to that. We have gone into this season without a recognised Right winger, left back and creative midfielder, that all spells of a club happy at the level we are now at, no surprise there are disruptive attitudes in the dressing room. Anyone who doesn't feel, even at this early stage of the season, that we are being fed lines by the club just to keep the fans and media interested are to be admired, for thier faith in the management, but a bad result tomorrow, and the same style of "hoof it"play we have adopted and the general cant be arsed attitude by the players, then the fans are going to start becoming very viciferous towards the Manager, owner and Director of Football.

Seem to be a few misconceptions and prejudged opinions here. Yes we were rubbish for most of our history and yes under Madejski we were turned into a functioning team which could compete at a decent level. This doesn't excuse the 'efforts' of the club over the last two years, where we managed to not spend any money while ending up with a weaker team, and are now repeating those mistakes, even though Coppell said he had learnt from them. (Maybe we should reserve judgement until September but I'm not hopeful.)

At the same time everyone wishing for a new chairman might be a dangerous thing. Without resorting to the 'at least we're not Leeds!' attitude, the club is stable under Madejski, and maybe we had unrealistic expectations after the Premiership debut season. Madejski doesn't have to throw money at it, even doing that might not have established us a Premiership club. Rather him than a Shinawatra character or another multi millionaire who is looking for a quick buck/going to spend wildly, and what if no-one wants to buy the club?

Either way some explanation of where the money has gone, and what his plans are for the future, is in order. If he has made the money for transfers and wages available, and Coppell has refused to spend it, then Coppell should be responsible if the club has a poor season, and/or his 'scouting network'. If Madejski is being weaselly with his words about 'getting straight back up' while not providing enough money or an adequate wage structure then he is the one who should go, or at least explain that he isn't prepared to spend big. The fans, while not being happy, would be less annoyed if he was honest with us. Why should anyone spend money on a season ticket when it's going into the owner's back pocket (or printing company) with no hope of getting much return on their investment.

I think both of them are at fault, Coppell seems to have identified his weakness (being too loyal to the squad) and still not removed it which is the most frustrating thing. I wanted him to stay, with a new manager all sorts of things could've happened (especially if it was Sanchez or someone), but it seems like the same wrong approach is being used. Unfortunately no-one outside of the club knows whether the money is there or not, so any judgement about 'won't pay the wages' or 'Coppell won't buy' is a stab in the dark.
