chandog i would like to see him back on the bench
i have always believed that lita is a better option than long who has been ineffective this season
long should be loaned out imo so he can get some first team football and we can begin to see how good he really is

Lita has been ineffective for 70% or more, of his Reading career.

[*]Early in 05/06 (not at the start, around October-Febuary)
[*]First half of 06/07
[*]Whole of 07-08
[*]Whole of 08-09 so far.

I could not comment on Lita's attitude as I have not seen him train, nor have I met him, nor have I even seen him in public. This is because I do not judge people.

And how effective has Long been for his entire Reading career? I don't think Long has done any better than Lita.

Wycombe Royal Everyone knows that he has an attitude problem except you it seems. I notice you left out the comments from Coppell when Leroy got in trouble in Bristol and some of the other incidents he has been involved with off the pitch.

That was 2 years ago. Therefore i) it's quite hard to find a link and ii) it was 2 years ago. But keep on judging:

Oh, I did find this on bbc.. not formatted very well (old site still), but none the less:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/solpda/ukfs_sport/hi/newsid_5301000/5301976.stm

Coppell is disappointed in Lita. Understandably considering the "unfounded" charge. Doesn't say "I have that little man, he has a bad attitude..."

Oh and who is "Everyone" by the way? Do you mean everyone on here?

It's not about their whole careers. For whatever reason, Lita has contributed next to nothing to team RFC for nearly 2 years and Long should count himself lucky that he has so little competition for his place on the bench....................if Doyle goes we might 2, or even 3, strikers in January!

Coppell obviously doesn't want him around.

I doubt there's anything that will change that. The more he scores, the more we'll got for him and hopefully the more we can turn down for Doyle.

earleyroyal Oh Jesus Christ, is 'not at all' really the most popular choice so far?

Somebody please give me a convincing reason why Long > Lita.

'Rumoured attitude problems' don't count.

long is taller, faster, stronger, scored more goals

LOL at the attitude problems which apparently dont count though!
you can ignore the recent bollox about fights amongst the squad etc
but much of his attitude troubles are on record.

Last season, for us, Long scored around 5 or 6 in all comps. I think Leroy scored 2 (one of which was against relegated and demoralised Derby, the other against a League 1 or Championship team in the CC).

Lita offers nothing but goals. He does not offer many more goals (if any) than Long. Lita needs several chances to score. Long hasn't been at his most clinical recently, but there was a period when he was scoring with every other shot or something like that.

Long is better in the air.

Long is quicker.

Long is stronger.

Long plays better with Doyle.

Long is harder working.

And LOL at AP. Criticised others for praising Simon Church on the back of 2 performances, and now praises Lita after 1 good performance for about 15 months.

Always been a fan of someone who has proved himself at club level in the Championship, absolutely different to one or two saying Church should be in the team despite him having done nothing ever at club level. Back to Wycombe he goes...

You believe what you like. He has brought more bad press to this squad than all the other players put together and is the only player, despite his abilities, who keeps getting left out and sent out on loan.

He showed last night what he can do when he puts his mind to it, but unfortunately for him and his career I don't think his football is the most important thing in his life, or even the second.

4 goals in <10 matches in debut season. Lita was better across the season

Better than Lita at the start of 06/07.

Lita was better in the second half of 06/07 though.

Better than Lita for the whole of 07/08- scored 3 goals, contributed something other than missed chances.

Better than Lita so far this season (for us)- Lita has offered almost nothing. Long has an assist (I think) and has at least looked lively.

AP, I see your point. However, by the same logic Shola Ameobi is proven at Premier League level- he scored a few goals a few years ago, and scored the other day...

Yorkshire Royal Simply put, Shane Long is not a professional footballer.

He is though isn't he?

He'd start every game for teams like Blackpool and Donny imo.

I believe Leroy should be ahead of Long.

Last season Leroy had to play against a higher calibre of opposition. He started against Man U, Chelsea etc teams we were going to struggle against anyway.

Leroy has been poor in the last 18 months but Long hasn’t been much better.

Their must be a reason why Long has been here 3 years + and hasn’t managed to establish himself. SC has chosen to play Doyle, Kitson, Lita and N Hunt all ahead of Long.

IRC Long has scored 3 goals in 1 and half seasons in the championship Leroy managed to do that in one night.

I know he won a penalty (only after the CB made a howler,) but Long was absolutely atrocious against Watford. He seems to play well once in a blue moon and everyone loves him. Anyone with reasonable fitness levels can chase people.

Watford (A), Ipswich (A) and Preston (A) are games where Doyle or Hunt needed to go off and when Long came on we looked a lot poorer.

I don’t think Leroy should start but he should be on the bench ahead of Long.

How many appearances has Long made in those "1 and a half years" though? I'd guess at 15.

(It's not even 1 year since he made his debut ffs)

Come on the guy posted video's of himself on the internet... What would say, your boss think of that?

I know its not really comparable, but just to do this is an indication of his attitude. If he just got his head down, and stopped falling over...

Long made his debut against Leicester in Dec 2005 and his full debut against Stoke in 2006. Not playing many games, sums up how the management dont rate Long that highly.
