I'm amazed anyone gives a toss about what other sets of fans do or don't do.

It dosen't matter if you are 2-0 or 6-0 you should keep chanting to get behind your team!! Earlier on the season Reading Town played Kidlington and went 2-0 down in the 1st half down but we never stopped chanting as that's when the players need your support most when you are being beaten. 2nd half and the Barmy Army as usual were singing no matter what and the goal came to make it 2-1. Then people around us (the reading rockers) started to belive we could get a draw so they joined in with non stop chanting which was great as it must us even louder. Last minute with everyone on a knife edge the Town scored and the place went mental with people jumping in the air. It's all good and well singing when your team is winning but they need the most support when they are loosing.
The sentiments there as always but get some bleeding record cleaner. Jeez.
If you're 6-0 down then fair enough.

Royal Lady If Hunty actually was a "gypo or pikey" or whatever names he was being called, you might have a point about the racial slant - but he's not and our own vans sing the very same to players with longish hair. Get a grip.

Are you so short sighted that you can't see it doesn't matter a jot who the abuse is aimed at and whether it is 'accurately' directed or not? Racism is a cancer in society and in football that must be stamped out.

I had a pleasant walk back to my car after the game.
This huge obese City fan was walking behind me and he started shouting abuse at me as i got into the car. I let him waddle past me and as i went off in the car, i kissed my Reading badge as i went past him. He was not happy.
Classic.

A real man would have turned around and kissed the badge in front of him. Powder puff.

 To be fair, they only shout "gypo" or "pikey" because they've got long hair - like I said - a silly stereotype - I didn't hear anyone chant "tarmac your drive sir" though.

FiNeRaIn ...they (some reading fans) leave 10 mins early when we are winning.

I know. It isnt hard to wait untill full time to leave. So you get out 5 minutes quicker. You go to a match to watch it, not to figure out the quickest way to leave it.

i read somewhere that the banter / level of abuse just gee's him up. Chelsea - warm up at the bridge when he was warming up in front of the home support springs to mind.
The obvious pikey / caravan jibes don't touch him. He even laughs at the Gollum comments.
It's not as if he's never heard it all before. Plus, the abuse means he's a recognised threat by the opposition so it's quite a compliment for him.

Seeing as you are missing the point by a mile i'll explain why i'm getting worked up. It's attitudes like yours that validate "silly stereotypes" and lead to bigger problems.

So, presumably, if someone threw a bananaskin or made monkey noises at Bikey, and he just shrugged it off, it would mean it also shouldn't be dealt with? The point is that the term "gypo" is a term of racist abuse; "pikey" I'm ambivilent about, as it clearly doesn't have racist origins but has generally come to be associated with being a gypsie too. Anyway, the seriousness of using racist language is not generally measured by whether or not the target reacts.

By the way, getting back on to the topic, I didn't think the City fans were at all embarrassing. Like most people, I was pretty bemused at first, but when it become obvious they were just dicking about, I found it pretty funny. It got a bit boring after a while, but so do most jokes.

Banana skins are a blatant racist symbol.

Pikey and Gypo songs refer to someone's long hair.

To say the two are not remotely similar is still grossly understating it.

Mmm maybe, but I like it when they give up all hope of getting anything and leave really early. And then we sing goodbyee.

And I like to see the glum faces on the ones who didn't leave early, and I take smug pleasure in their pain.

And there was me thinking that gypo in some way referred to gypsies.

So, am I a gypo?

In my opinion, "pikey" and "gypo" are racist insults.

I dont think we can complain though because I heard one Reading fan calling thier striker (Nicky Maynard) a racial word beginning with N.

This same individual then announced to his friends that he was not going to be participating with the KHALIFA CISSE song, purely because of Cisse's ethnicity. He also added, he didn't want any of "that lot" playing for Reading.

A steward stood a few yards away did nothing, which wasn't suprising seeing how overly laid back (to the point of dangerous) the security was at Ashton gate.
