Xavier Onassis all might agree that we maybe didn't invest enough in the playing staff so that profit figure might get eaten into next time.

I don't agree really, I think that having a team well used to working together was the key to our 8th place in the first prem season.

I do think it was a mistake not to ring the changes in summer '07. Hindsight's a wonderful thing though, innit?

Quite interesting to look at what their summer spending has done for the current prem new boys:

Hull 6.5 million 6th on 21 pts
Stoke 17.5 million 15th on 14 pts
West Brom 19 million bottom on 11 pts

with west brom already having the better team

how have they oxf*rd that up so bad!!

Just having a quick look at their squad and stats from the last two seasons, I will make a suggestion that they simply don't have the strikers to make the most of whatever chances they're getting.

Last season, they had Phillips (22 goals) and Bednar (13). Whoever they've brought in to replace Phillips has not done so (Zuiverloon? Luke Moore?) and Bednar is finding the step up difficult. Compare to Hull who acquired Geovanni, King and Cousin, all with some level of pedigree at the top level, to replace Windass and Campbell.

I also really don't think they've spent £19 million gross and certainly have not spent £19 million net with the bulk of Curtis Davies transfer money coming in this summer.
