loyalroyal4life if chris iwelumo goes in Jan they are screwed

Kightly maybe, but Iwelumo is easily replaceable with the money they would get for selling him (being a sellers markets and all that guff he'd probably end up going for over £3 Million)

YES

Not even halfway through the season. We have had our bad patch.

The top 2 haven't.

yes but we are more prone than the top 2 to have another bad patch plus who is to say the top 2 will have a bad patch? i remember a team in season 2005-06 that got 106 points who did not have a bad patch

He's a big guy, and there aren't many big strikers of his level avalible. I don't think they'd replace him easily.

Yes, but that team was 100x better than either Wolves or Brum.

There is no way that 106 points will be matched..certainlly not this season. Wolves have had a great start but if you think back we just kept on and on picking up points..was it only 2 losses I recall ? unbelievable achievement..and this year we have seen teams lower down the league regualalrly puttingit together on their day and turning over the leaders.

I remember in 05/06 people were expecting us to blow it after Christmas, like normal. It didn't happen. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Wolves keep this up. We can catch Brum though.

andrew1957 At the end of August Reading were 3 points behind Brum
At the end of September we were still 3 points behind
At the end of October we were 6 points behind and we are still 6 points behind.

This is hardly insurmountable - it just takes 2 wins for us and 2 losses for them.

What we need is some consistency where we win 6 games or so in a row.

No, but as you have shown that gap is actually growing as time goes on which is hardly ideal, I am sure you would agree with that. And as you personally got it so spectacularly wrong last time - crowing just after our last win in the Premier League at all those who dared to doubt  - forgive me if I don't hold my breath waiting for this 6 game in a row winning streak; some of you are still confusing RFC 08/09 with RFC 05/06. And I notice how catching Wolves is already being conveniently overlooked; a pre-requisite I would have thought if we are to claim the divisional title as so many of you once expected us to

Oh Floyd - why do you put a negative spin on everything.

It is quite possible that Brum will lose on Saturday (away to Wolves) and we will win on Monday in which case the gap will be just 3 points again - in which case the gap will be narrowing.

As for catching Wolves - who cares. I just want to see us promoted again and if we are second - or even get there through the play offs - that is fine with me. In any case there are still 27 matches to go and I very much doubt that Wolves will go the whole season without another bad patch.

I agree with SC we just need to take things one game at a time and doing this may well get us above Birmingham by Christmas.

We'll overtake either Wolves or Bluenoses.
Probably both.
Piece of cake.

What result do we want from the Birmingham v Wolves game?
If Wolves win they will be miles ahead but if Birmingham win it does put them that bit further ahead of us but at least keeps Wolves within sight.
I think Birmingham to win is the best result for us and the chasing pack as it means BOTH promotion places remain whereas I do feel that Wolves winning means a hell of a lot of catching and I would prefer us to be chasing one of two automatic places rather than just the one.
Regardless of all this I still feel that the transfer window holds the key to it all.

Both the team coaches exploding, killing everyone on board?

Or there's Option C, a draw, which would mean that a win on Monday would see us regain two points on both clubs.

Not sure I agree.

I think a Wolves win is the best result. If Wolves zoom out into a massive lead before xmas, they may become a little complacent. A few bad results and it can be difficult to salvage that early season form. A couple of key injuries or departures and we've seen they are quite beatable.

It also has the added bonus of keeping us as near Brum as possible. The more we breathe down their necks the less we have to worry about the teams behind us and the more they may choke.

The key to 05/06 was that the squad stepped up whenever needed. We had key injuries to Lita, Kitson, Shorey, & Murty, Sidwell went missing for a few games as well. By the time Little was out we'd virtually sown it up so it didn't really matter that Oster couldn't quite make the step up.

At some point Wolves and Birmingham will lose key players. Then we'll see how good they really are. Unfortunately the same is true for us. We should be ok in most areas other the upfront though. Probably the wings to a lesser extent.

TBh any result can be viewed in a positive light if you have the mind to try.

December 20th is the key date for us. Can't take the last game of the season into concideration whatsoever as by then the chances are it will all be decided unfortunatelly. We've just got to try and work some form in December and pick up those points. Can't worry about the other teams as such because if we do we loose concentration. Wolves could loose players in January as well as us and Birmingham. It's a marathon not a sprint and right now we're only on Mile 8.

Id rather Wolves won, we only need 1 of the promotion spots and Birmingham being closest its logical we will catch them before we catch Wolves.

Either way we're going to need a decent unbeaten run if we're to go straight up, hopefully starting on Monday. :)
