Alan Partridge
brendywendy im expecting amid tableseason of ups and downs

if theers motre down that up, relegation may be an option

That's my prediction also.

probably spelt a little better i expect

Reading the comments here, people said exactly the same 2 years ago ad we all know what happened. 3 worse teams, how many of you last year honestly put Charlton to finish bottom of the league and Newcastle to get relegated from the Premiership?

& people have said that every season for years, in the same way that loads of people will have slated the club every season before it starts for years

up to and including the 106, and 8th place prem seasons

I think that it is fair to assume that there will be at least 3 teams worse than us this season.

As well as do the double over the team that wins the Championship.

I seriously will not think it's a shock if we come anywhere from first to last. I think top ten is slightly more likely than not, but a relegation battle is a live possibility.

Is it just the exit of Doyle that makes people think a relegation battle is a distinct possibility?

Or did Murty, Hahnemann, Lita, Duberry contribute more than I noticed last season?

I like Doyle hugely but we were far more than a 1 man team, and with an inspirational new manager likely to pull more out of the players who have stayed I think that level of pessimism is a bit misplaced.

I think we'll finish 6th to 12th this season; if our Academy Collective were to have made 200 appearances between them during the season, and we were to finish in that range, then it is likely that the team will have made very real progress during the season.

That's all I am looking for - progress. Well, that and good football again.

It's difficult to just wipe away the memory of the second part of last season when we played like a relegation side.
Marcus and Doyle going are great losses and Hunt staying would be another downer.
The signing of just a Chelsea player who has been out on loan to 4 other clubs doesn't exactly fill me with enthusiasm.
2 or 3 signings however probably would.

we COULD be involved in a relegation battle, on the other hand we COULD also be promoted... is far far too early to gauge any thing of this nature... god pre season is dull!!!

saying that.. im going to go with mid table next year, not expecting anything but finding our feet this year

Agree with ^

Too many unknowns. Think I will put a fiver on us gubbing forest 5-0 and being gubbed by the same score.

And yet what a difference the arrival of Doyle made (OK plus Lita and Gunnarsson). I don't think it's as simple as personel. At this level, you operate on a knife-edge. Think of what damage relegated teams did to us this year. Charlton, Southampton and Norwich were not bad teams. We could go there quite easily.

I would think we have enough to be safe from the dreaded relegation battle, although the bit that concerns me is that it increasingly looks like we will start the season with "what we have got" as per usual, we are dragging our heals in the transfer stakes with only the young lad form Chelsea coming in. The now laughable limitations put on our transfer dealings is now beyond a joke, Mr Mad did state last year that we would be "happy in the Championship" for the for the time being and our transfer policy and present transfer activity seems to back that up, With no appreciable efforts or desires to return to the top flight, unless it can be done on penny pinching methods.

Not saying it is so, but one possible train of thought in the RFC hierarchy might be..

Good point well presented Snowball, only downside to that is if we are struggling in January and with our owners much advertised wealth the price for players we are tracking automatically goes up with the view to desperation buys.

I guess, but that might be the case now, too, with the "Doyle Money" imagined.

If we didn't get Smith now and he stayed at Watford but didn't extend his contract
and if they weren't facing the drop he'd probably be 500K in January?

August will give you a pretty good idea where this club is going.

If no new faces come in, then it rather looks like there's no ambition at all. I agree with lots of posters on here who say we've got an up and coming manager and there are decent academy kids coming through. But we need two proven signings (a striker is a must) to bolster this squad.

I fear we're about to drift (slowly) back to being little old RFC.

Let's see. Summer 2005 was very quiet until late on ...
