LoyalRoyalFan For me, Tabb would be a great holding midfielder.

Again I agree, but I don't think he'd be perfect, and I think the other CM would have to be prepared to cover him. If that's MM who knows what could happen?

What about Cisse?

Yeah, but then we haven't got the same creativity really. I don't think there is a perfect combination for us in Midfield at the moment. I'd quite like to see a Cisse/Tabb partnership, but I doubt Rodgers would go with it

Jay Tabb

I'll be the first to admit that I slated him a few times last season, however this lad is a great player for the club.

I think some of the reasons behind Kebe's renaissance in a Reading shirt can be attributed to having Tabb in midfield, who as a left footer would naturally look to play the ball out to the right wing. Much in a similar vein to Brian Tinnion did with Scott Murray at Bristol City.

He is a hurrier and a scurrier and helps clear possession up. Under McDermott we've changed to a more territory based, direct style of play - get the ball up to the final 3rd and if it's cleared, win the 2nd ball which Tabb does very well.

Strong in the tackle and remarkably good in the air, Jay Tabb I salute you.

always liked tabb, rarely let us down, even at RB.absolute terrier and gives us some real bite in the middle.
was gutted top see him almost transferred under rodgers, and am very happy to see him getting a run in the side now, even if its at the expense of karacan.

When we first signed Tabb, I don't think Coppell knew what his best position was but he grew on me from Easter onwards last season.

I thought he did a good job at right back until Moses tore him apart but he was doing the best he could.

Very pleased to see him given a chance again.

Consistancy is Karacan's problem, but with Tabb, you know what you're going to get every time he plays.

I've always liked him - his attitude and workrate is superb.

I think that if we wasn't such a shortarse he'd be an established PL player, but it's really just his height that lets him down.

The treatment of Tabb was the final straw when it came to me crossing over the floor from pro-Brendan to anti-Brendan. I can't believe a player of his experience and energy was considered surplus to requirements. Then when called upon to play as right-back, he never gave less than his all and often looked a more natural fit than any other part of the defence. Mr Consistency.

People tend to damn him with faint praise.

His work rate and commitment often overshadow two very important qualities: he’s very tidy on the ball (good first touch, doesn’t give it away often) and he’s a very smart player. He doesn’t panic, he picks the right pass and he knows when he has time.

He's one of the players who doesn't just play well; he makes the team play better.

I thought until his stint at right back this season that Tabb had vastly underperformed for RFC, whether it was through not knowing how best to use him or he just wasn't suited to how we did things but recently he has been immense. He was the MOTM in the replay at West Brom and has gone on from strength to stength. A vastly improved couple of weeks and it's good to see a honest hardworking pro reep the rewards.

I think Jay Tabb's size is an asset really. No one expects him to win the headers that he does.

Certainly when he was playing right back the opposition made sure that they had a big striker playing wide left and regularly pumped the ball in the air to him.

Hasn't stopped Iniesta or Xavi at Barcelona!

I thought he was awesome at Coventry and wondered why we seemed to sign players who don't perform to how they did at their old club. Tabb has done now with us.

Loving the Howard/Tabb combo at the moment.

Works well with our front 4, they shield and just let the others get on with it. Though as others have said that actually underplays the qualities that they bring to they bring to the side.

He's never a left winger though....

Player of the season at Coventry before we signed him playing in the centre of midfield.

McDermott worked it out where to play Tabb!!!

He's definitely up there with the South American flair players of Rivaldo and Pablo Aimar, and the drug-induced Adrian Mutu when it comes to legendary Mizuno boot-wearers.
