What retarded logic, lets leave a player out as we don't like his celebrations.

So yet another final final chance for him then. Should be allowed to ply his trade at League 1 where he manages to shine

floyd__streete Scored again today. Only at Reading would a home grown player with very obvious talent not be given an opportunity to develop in our own struggling team and be shipped out on loan whilst the supporters rubbish his efforts elsewhere . I'd rather watch Henry learn his trade on the wing for Reading than suffer mediocre journeymen like Jimmy Kebe instead.

LOL@that

Yeah, LOL @ 5 goals scored by Henry this season. LOL @ that being two more goals than we have scored at home in the league all season and one third of the meagre tally we have amassed in total. LOL @ this imaginary yawning chasm in quality between the Championship and League One.

Once again, I'd marginally prefer to see a local lad trying and failing than the various cast of mercenary nonentities which make up our first team squad.

And when did you ever see a professional football team that wasn't made up of mercenaries?

Noted your use of the word marginally. I'd rather have better players in our team than local ones and that's not marginally.

Perhaps Henry wasn't 100% fit when he's pulled on a Royals shirt, perhaps he was played out of position (forgive my fading memory but I don't think so), perhaps he had non football related issues that has caused a dip in form. I have no idea - but what I do know is that purely based on his limited performances he's not good enough for the Championship at this moment in time.

Despite your hearty LOL's there is a gap between teams in the two divisions. Probably less at the top (Leeds, Charlton, Norwich and even Millwall) but you have to remember that Millwall will also be playing the likes of Stockport, Tranmere and Wycombe - and there's definately a significant gap between these teams and even the lower reaches of the Championship - let alone the likes of Newcastle and West Brom.

no,its great hes scored 5, and i reiterate the free kick he scored at the weekend was incredibly accomplished for a young midfielder
i just lol- because- having seen him at 1st team, and reserve level, as well as several times on TV in the leagues below
id say hes a great prospect, but not quite ready for championship football, hes failed in every game ive watched, bar one to impress. he certainly doesnt offer as much as our other wing options currently IMO, though im very glad weve kept him on with another contract, and continue to oversee his development by guaranteeing him more games out on loan.

Personally I thought Henry did enough last season to warrant the kind of chances that Kebe was given.

He only played a handful of games, and in those he made a good impact in most, kept the ball well, created chances and scored a few goals too. He had quiet spells and quiet games too, but he's a winger, that's what they do.

He could be a little better defensively, but then I don't think he's as bad as Kebe in that department. There may well be something off the pitch that's stopping him holding down a place in the squad, but I'd rather have Henry in the squad than Kebe. That's not just because he's a local lad, I just happen to think he's a better player.

Imo his all round game is probably better, but his end product in terms of crosses is worse, EVEN than kebes.and ive never seen him tear a fullback apart, or cause mass panic in a back line like our jimi or jobi.
And lol finerain- mainly for thinking i wouldnt play young james because he fell over in his celebration. Just trying, but failing to inject some light heartedness to the bitchfest.

Can't see how you have come to that conclusion regarding his crossing brendy, but I would say he tries to play team mates in with passes a bit more than Kebe, so perhaps doesn't aimlessly flash balls across the box (or into the North/South Stand) in quite the same way as your Jimmy!

Totally agree Henry isn't going to tear a fullback apart like Kebe or McAnuff might, that's not not quite his game. He's a bit more about creating space for the cross and delivering it than racing to the touchline and spinning his defender into the ground. In that way his style is more akin to a Beckham or Bentley than a Giggs or Lennon.

He's definately more my type of player than Kebe though.

'End Product' incorporates goals as well as crosses and Henry has scored more this season than Kebe has in his entire Reading career.

I'm not sure he would flourish at this level but, as others have said, he's done far more to have an extended run in the team than many who have been given far greater opportunity, Kebe included.

To have a proven goalscorer and free kick specialist out on loan when you are a team that is struggling to score seems rather odd to me.

Proven goalscorer?

Free kick specialist?

Are you sure you are talking about James Henry?

I would have said that those comments apply more to Scott Davies than James Henry......

Henry is very good with a dead ball, he's also a very useful goalscorer.

He's not really a winger mind you, which kind of explains why he doesn;t necessarily skin full backs. His natural game is cutting inside and heading for goal, rather than hitting the byline and crossing. He's more than capable of playing central midfield or up front.

He's consitently scored goals in whatever side he's played in.

He's also very good delivering the ball from set pieces, and he's also scored a few times from them too.

I don't see how you can really argue with Schards comment, apart from that he's not proven it at Championship level, which of course he can't as he's not really had the run he'd need to do so. Davies is similar in that he's always scored goals whichever team he's played in so far. Personally I don't think he's ready to play Championship football yet though.

Henry is a right winger, isn't he? He's competing with Kebe and McAnuff for that position...

Why?

You might be right, but I think he has something about him, and from what I've seen of him (that's for the youth team, ressies, us and a few games on loan) and our other wingers I'd just rather he was given more of the chances that Kebe and others have had.

It may be that his attitude lets him down or something, especially as Rodgers was building him up a bit and then never really used him.

But while I'm here: he has played in League One and played well. He has played in the CCC and played badly.

Ergo.

His attitude whilst here earlier in the year was by all accounts shoddy - he had the chance to impress a manager who had already made it very clear that he rated him very highly - he did not do that for some reason.

This loan was a last chance saloon and a chance he has taken well hence the new contract. He can be called back at any time and if BR believes he's the best option for the wing he'll bring him back - at the mo, we seem to have come across a midfield four that is beginning to work well so I see no need to bring him back now.
