BobKnows I say why not? I would probably give him have a couple more championship games before confirming, just in case we get thumped 5-0 in each  . But if we look solid, if we looking like we're making steady improvement, I think it would be unfair not to offer it to him (at least for the rest of the season). Tommy Burns RIP proves big managers don't always mean big results.

That sums it up for me too. I'd like to know this cup match isn't just a one-off and he can get the team playing consistently well... although I'll settle for reasonably OK following that result. If they go back to Plymouth/QPR game standard then I wouldn't be so happy.

I feel that the club should take a decision now.
We may well get hammered 8-0 by Forest on Saturday and if that happened the gut reaction might be to get ANYBODY in fast even if the result were due to the after-effects of the fantastic physical effort put in last night (apart from Kebe of course who sat down holding his face and left his team mates to get on with things when there was nothing wrong with him-not somebody you would want in the trenches with you).
Also we have the transfer window which complicates things-surely these 3 cup matches provide some bunce that hasn't been budgeted for so by appointing him(or somebody else) it should mean that the manager has at least some money to work with and there are just 17 days left.

He is obviously very popular with the players but as Coppell and Ferguson have said in the past that is not necessarily a good thing because they both feel that there should be distance between a player and the manager.

As everybody else has said what a refreshing change he is from Mr Hype and seems a very likeable bloke but is that enough?

I think there is no reason to make the decision for at least another month. Everyone at the club knows how it stands. It doesn't matter for us what's going on, all we've got to do is get behind the team.

I actually think we do need to make a decision.

Footballers live on routine, everything being how it is cant be a good thing.

I understand why it is like it is, but imo something needs to happen after the Forest game. If they want him, McD deserves to hear it.

I also think the fans need to hear it.

The footballers have their routine, but there is no need to commit to a formal contract at the time being. He needs to get at least 5 league games under his belt first.

Bristol City, Swansea, Plymouth, Forest, ?

And I said AT LEAST.

The first few games were a bridge from Rodgers selections and tactics. We need to see what McDermott actually does in the League now the team is very much his for the taking, before we make it official.

I forgive you.

Seriously though. The Liverpool games were fantastic and great for the club, but they're pretty meaningless when it comes to the real importance of our League situation. They could galvinise us and give us a huge confidence boost, but really they're one offs that can't be taken into account.

The Chairman was always looking for an excuse to give him the job, and I an sure, after the noises in the press, this will be it.

As fans we all want to see well known names joining the club, beit players or managers, and some may feel that BM is the boring option and lacks the excitment factor that someone like Alan Curbishley would bring (as well as a proven track record.)

Personally I think it is a forgone conclusion he will get the job, I just hope this has been well thought out. For all the excitment of beating Liverpool away, this will mean nothing if we get relegated. I just hope BM is the person to get us safe this year and move us forward from next season.

I fear the enthusiasm of some on here is a little blinkered, and based on one good FA Cup result. The real test of any manager is league form, and to be honest, his performance so far has been on par with Rodgers, or possibly it could be argued a little worse. If he gets the job, then he deserves our support, however for me he needs to get a few league wins under his belt before I start feeling a little more confident in him.

Speak for yourself. I'd barely heard of Coppell (as a manager) and never heard of Kitson, Doyle, Harper, SHunt or Convey until they joined. What I want to see is people who get the job done for the club.

andrew1957 What is encouraging is that the players look very much fitter than they did under BR - or is it my imagination.

I have felt for a while McD should have the job til the end of the season - so not a knee jerk response.

I wanted McD in the close season!

"I know fcuk all about McDermott but on the basis of that I'd be amazed if he got the job permanently." Classic British sports journalism.

Two one offs ?

That could become a habit.... !

I'd agree that the cup is a bit different but the games will clearly have a bit impact on the players and the club in general and shouldn't just be ignored. McDermott was the man who prepared the team, and both times he made decisions that worked. He showed tactical awareness and made good use of subs. Obviously Liverpool self destructed to some extent but there was alot that McDermott did that contributed to the performances and results IMHO.

Wow that's got to be the most uninteresting and underwhelming piece of sports journalism i've ever read. Trying desperately to play on the fact that he has actually met Brian MacDermott in the distant past and as much about me me me as his supposed subject matter.

I didn't bother to open the tab at the top that says "who is Mike Whalley". I guess like everybody else, I don't care...
