Ian Royal Marek wider!? That's a horrific idea IMO.

I just knew you'd say that Ian. I don't see why it is so horrific. I'm not talking out and out winger but certainly drifting to one side. It means that one of his eaknesses in tackling is not so exposed.

He doesn't beat players which is a key part of playing wide IMO. And from what I remember he has been horrendus when played wide once or twice. His strength is playing through balls from the centre of midfield. Drift wide and he can't do the only thing he's shown he's really good at.

How many players does Siggy beat playing wide? Not many. Doesn't make him ineffective though does it. I don't see Marek playing a winger role. He can still play clever through balls from a wider position and switch the play from one side to another.

Do you watch Sigursson? He beats loads of players!

Not with pace, but with skill.

No I don't watch Sigursson...I watch Sigurdsson m8.
I've seen him live around 8 times this season and can't recall him going past players with great regularity.

Not if you think he doesn't beat players.

As I've said I have seen Siggy live around 8 times this season and cannot remember him going past players that often. He's got great balance and cuts inside well to create the space to shoot though.

I think he beats players quite often to be honest. The Sig that is.

Maybe you should start a poll - The Sig or MM to play

Good Luck

I give in.Perhaps he does it when I'm not looking. In the games I have seen, ie Cardiff City, Newcastle, West Brom, Burnley, Liverpool twice, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace(did he play against Palace?) I can't remember seeing him go past too many players...

Why would I want to do that when I do not want to see MM brought in to replace Siggy?

Maybe he doesn't then. From the games I've watched he seems to. Not hugely but quite often.

The thing is I think Siggy is fantastic but Matejovsky wasn't played when Siggy was injured and I would like to see how he gets on under McD who seems to have worked wonders with Kebe and Long...so I'd like to see if he could do it with Marek....but i repeat not at the expense of Siggy who has been our player of the season.

in for Howard who imo has been the only player not playing out of his skin recently infact considering the run we are on I think Howard has been very average

But Marek can't tackle to save his life and is not suited to a moderately defensive midfield workhorse role. Think you're missing the point of Howard's role personally.

cant honestly see how howard is ahead of marek personally.
marek is very much a luxury player who needs to be playing week in week out with the right support, sadly he has never got that in his time with us. i'll be sad to see him leave because i think there was so much potential there that we just never used.
sadly us reading fans have never been big fans of the elaborate player. we always seem to favour the less talented hard workers

I agree with this...........although playing them both in central midfield would put a lot of pressure on Tabb who would have to get through a huge amount of defensive work.

Yeah, no one is fussed about Sig at all. It's such a shame.

Ian Royal Sig has contributed more in his 20 odd games this season than Marek has in 2 years.

Quite.

What a shame it took Coppell's departure for a young player already seen by many as, someone we are bound to lose sooner rather than later, to get his chance ahead of favourites like Harper.

Meanwhile, Marek was just another of Steve's makeweights.........................good enough for cover but never going to get a look in ahead of his 106 boys.

WR more knowledgeable that RFC's best ever manager!!!!!!

Picking one player that has come through does not really work, I don't recall many saying he should have been recalled and played last season. I do recall people calling for Mooney and Henry to be recalled and played, probably the same folk that said a refreshed Lita would be good for the team. And all those that wet themselves when Kitson came back, yeah what a poor manager Coppell was, and I suppose still is.

[quote="fester_royal"]cant honestly see how howard is ahead of marek personally.

Therein lies the answer to your question, mate.
Our team isn't strong enough to carry too many luxury players.
Kebe is a luxury player, but when he does his Bambi impersonation, he is generally much higher up the pitch.
Jimmy has also contributed more in terms of goals and assists in half a season than Marek has in all his time here.
JK has also lately added tracking back and tackling to his repertoire, something which Marek has failed to do apart from the odd clumsy lunge, resulting in a yellow card.

Following the summer's "cloth cutting" many of our younger players have been given the opportunity to make a shirt their own.
Some have grasped that opportunity, some haven't. Under three different managers, Marek has fallen into the latter category.

I believe that actions speak much louder than words. We're just chewing the fat on a discussion board, and there are many Royals fans who rave about Marek. The fact of the matter is that despite the club discreetly hawking him around, Nick Hammond's door has yet to be kicked in by scouts at other clubs wanting to take this wonder player away from us.

Please do not compare Gylfi with Marek. Marek will probably finish up back in Czech football, and will disappear off the radar.
Gylfi has a very bright future, and will play at a much higher level, and for bigger clubs than Marek can ever dream of.

None of that post makes any sense :|

Edit: Oh except for the fact that Sig has been awesome of course
