READING boss Brian McDermott insists the club's proposed transfer of Stoppila Sunzu is still ON.

The 23-year-old Zambia defender spent last week on trial with the Royals and impressed in a practice match.

But reports this week say the move had fallen through due to confusion over Sunzu's contract with his parent club TP Mazembe.

It has been suggested the player believed his contract with Congolese outfit TP Mazembe had expired, but the club is insisting he is tied to them until 2015.

However, the Chronicle understands that a deal to bring Sunzu to the Premier League has almost been done and he is expected to sign for the Royals at the end of Zambia's involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

ACON ends after the transfer window finishes though, are they not expected to get very far?

Weren't expected to get far last year and ended up winning it! They're playing Nigeria tomorrow which they need something from after drawing vs Ethiopia, if they don't, probably an early plane home.

They hold this worthless pub team competition every single year??

Every two, but they have brought this one forward so it now falls every odd year. (2015, 17, 19..) rather than same years we have a euro or world cup.

Signings rarely ever seem any good from the ACON.

Aren't they also planning to move it to June-July to avoid this mid season issue?

Didn't think they could because of the weather.

They could if they held it below the equator, as the seasons would be reversed so it would be winter rather than summer. Maybe.

Why you shouldn't buy anything from these cuntrys.

"Stoppila is upset that things are dragging on. He signed a three year contract with TP Mazembe and now that it is up he wants to move on," Carew told skysports.com.

"Mazembe are refusing to give Sunzu his playing contract which he has requested in writing and which will prove that he is a free agent.

"We have asked for help from FIFA and the English FA to solve this problem but whatever happens Sunzu will not be returning to Mazembe."

This South African chap has been pretty good so far with the mess of a transfer this has become. Sounds very messy. Not sure I'd trust his 'former' club at all, especially if they're holding back the proof of contract. I don't understand why he's so keen to come here though over Arsenal.

Three agents. :? It sounds like Sunzu is getting ripped by someone. Maybe he 'signed' a contract extension without even knowing it.

He sacked an agent last year on the advice of Mazembe too. Hmm.

Im not sure this guy is worth all the hassle. Is he actually any better than Pearce, Mariappa, Morrison, Gorkss, Hector, Long or Sweeney?

If we need a CB Id rather we just got Mills back, ok he was a prick but he put his bollocks on the line every week for us.
