BBC Meanwhile, Sheffield United have confirmed they have allowed striker Billy Sharp to join Doncaster on loan for the rest of the season.

Nothing about Harper and Howard though...

it must be said that the only signing we might make money on in the future is Mills, we really must hope the youngsters get a good look in, as thats where furure income needs to come from.

Ideal
Thaumagurist* it's wise to sell high and buy low

Of course it is!
The problem is we haven't been buying at all, and the type of players we used to sign have just stopped arriving.

I don't get that. Pray tell what is the difference between players who used to arrive like Lita, Fae, Halford, Seoul, Rosenior, Matejovsky etc. (you know, our most expensive signings) and NHunt, Tabb, Mills, Rasiak, McAnuff the most recent signings?

Sheffield Star now reports:

Earlier sources close to United's Brian Howard suggested the former Barnsley midfielder might sign for Championship rivals Reading on loan today.

But that failed to materialise.

Ideal stop and think for a moment and you'll realise how daft that post is.

Can i refer you to messers Pearce, karacan, Sigardsson, Henry, Church, Davies, Bignall, Kelly, Robson-Kanu, Baggie, McDonald, Hamer etc etc etc

Top class examples of players we have brought in for next to nothing, with lots of future in them and probably lots of money at some point.

The model has changed....

You have to move onwards and upwards, we are less likely to keep making those great choices and selling them on at a profit, we need to sign £1/2m players and improve them, not an easy thing to do.

Can it be added that Coppell wanted Lescott, but we were outbid and gazumped by Everton, what a profit that would have been!!!!!

Howard's Wiki page Howard moved to Reading on the 1st September 2009 permanently. In a deal which involved Howard being swapped with James Harper who signed on a season long loan.

Ideal I was speaking in terms of the ones we used to bring in.
Hunt, Shorey, Harper, Sidwell, Doyle, promising players who had many years left in them, bought for seemingly low prices.
Now we don't seem to be working on that type of signings anymore, and have not been for quite some time.

Surely because we can't supplement youth with youth anymore now that our academy is beginning to bare fruit? Where as we once had experience to blend with youth, a large proportion of our squad have very little experience. Therefore it seems in the eyes of the management age = experience.

If it is true that Harper and Rosenior have gone and Howard and Wright have come in, then we have weakened our squad even further. Wright spent all of last season injured and both the Blades fans I know couldn't wait to see the back of Howard and spent all afternoon laughing at me.

I never expected us to be able to keep hold of Harper in this window, but letting him go to a Championship rival on LOAN is very disappointing. Letting Rosenior go without a decent replacement is even worse.

Why? He's rubbish and will never play.

Yes, the football show on Radio Sheffield is talking about Harper having joined on loan. They also seem to think we've signed Brian Howard.

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere:

1833: This is how low-profile today has been: Bristol Rovers have signed Denmark Under-21 goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen from Reading until 1 January and midfielder Mark Wright from Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

Don't know how the BBC can use that as evidence of a low profile day - North Bristol is awash with Danish flags this evening. The Longwell Green ASDA has sold out of Carlsberg and bacon.
