If we were looking at just league tables, we'd be saying Stam is the best manager we've had.

We’d be saying it was Steve Coppell. Stam would be behind McDermott and McGhee.

In more recent times i.e. under the Dai's.

Stam is the best manager we've had under the Dais. Or the Thais, for that matter.

Is the incorrect answer. Hopeless incompetent who managed to completely disassemble his own good work in the space of about 3 months.

Clarke for me. Yes he was dour and yes he was stupid for going to talk to Fulham but we were playing some really good stuff under him at times. Only person to get a tune out of Blackman as well

He was ok - which made him far superior than the rest (bar Bowen). Depressing really.

Didn't he score that glorious goal at Hull under Clarke? We played some really nice stuff under his watch.

We definitely played some pretty great stuff for that approx. 2 month window.

Yep we start that season exceptionally. Cracks were starting to show though as he got his head turned

May be making this up but think that superb Hull goal was after Clarke left. Under Kuhl?

All began to unravel after we drew at Rotherham away as we were 1-0 up half time, eventually drew 1-1 and it all went backwards from then, especially the capitulation at Fulham just a few days later. Some good memories briefly in that spell, absolute limbs in the away end at Burnley after all of 10 minutes.

It was Martin Kuhl in charge at the time against Hull.

I mean, yes, that period was probably the best we've played (although Paunovic runs it close).

Difference is that with Stam it took over a year for the wheels to fall off, with Paunovic it took about two-thirds of a season, and with Clarke it took a couple of months. Not helped by the injuries to Quinn and Tshibola of course, but he still had Norwood, Williams, and Alex Fernandez.

Selling Tshibola was the best decision the club have made without a better one since then to beat that. He's flopped since he left after a handful of starts for us.

We got £3-4m for him

Again season in a nutshell today

One win away from achieving the primary aim with 13 games to go. The footballs dire at times but can’t argue he’s done the job he was employed to do

Good result but shite performance.

Let's get to 50 points then I want to see less negativity in tactics from Ince

The only objective way of judging a manager is their success over multiple teams/years.

Who of our previous managers since Coppell has the best record on that front? Probably Rodgers. Will say that McDermott gets a bit of a pass from this as he had his own personal issues. Adkins has some success but fizzled out. Clarke took the easy way out. Clement went back to assistant roles. Stam, Gomes, Pauno . . all nothing other than Reading.

There's a reasonable argument to say that Ince has the best actual record of any manager since Coppell other than Rodgers.
