Ideal I was speaking in terms of the ones we used to bring in.
Hunt, Shorey, Harper, Sidwell, Doyle, promising players who had many years left in them, bought for seemingly low prices.
Now we don't seem to be working on that type of signings anymore, and have not been for quite some time.

Hunt from Brentford
Shorey Leyton Orient
Harper Arsenal
Sidwell Brentford
Doyle Cork.
Not forgetting Kitson Cambridge Utd.

Hardly overwhelming choices at the time. It just so happened that they worked, but you wouldn't have rated them at the time.

winchester_royal Some guy on 606 was talking about Harper's interview on Radio Sheffield about his move to Utd. Maybe it has happened.... :?

Yes, the football show on Radio Sheffield is talking about Harper having joined on loan. They also seem to think we've signed Brian Howard.

He certainly seems to have gone.

I never expected us to be able to keep hold of Harper in this window, but letting him go to a Championship rival on LOAN is very disappointing.

Why? He's rubbish and will never play.

It's not that we've let a first team regular go so much as he's gone to a rival in the same division without even generating a fee.

It sounds like a done deal as apparently Harper has been interviewed on Radio Sheffield.

The thing I do not understand is if it is a year long loan deal., Harper is out of contract at the end of the year so we will get nothing for him then. A 6 month loan with a view to make it permanent would be more logical - unless we have already agreed a fee in January with Sheffield.

Well that very much depends on whether or not Howard is coming the other way as part of the deal.

Just be thankful he's gone.

Here's to having an effective midfield.

the fee may be that they will pay his wages, I am sad to see him go, but BR is building his team, and if Harper is not going to be a part of that team then it is time to move along.

Out of contract at the end of the season???? so as he cannot move to the Prem now he may as well go to a team that will be chalenging this season, and hope for a contract with them for a couple of seasons in the prem.if not a nice signing on fee at the end of the season from someone.

79Royal Wright spent all of last season injured

Did he?

Then how come he made 34 appearances in the league last season?

Well, what an unbelievably curious move all round if confirmed :| . I am not exactly Harper's biggest fan, but why loan him out to an apparent rival for the top six place Rodgers is targetting? Why so keen to get rid of him in any place? And it is hardly the move back to the top flight Harper was wanting, Sheff U hardly play to Harper's strengths either.

Rather baffling transfer window all round really. We seem to have signed a bunch of misfits and cast-offs; Rasiak hasn't commanded a regular place anywhere over the last few years, McAnuff has had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus amid rumours of bad attitude and Bertrand has been here there and everywhere on loan. All these late deals rather smack of desperation, but there is hopefully enough quality in the squad for us to scramble a mid-table finish.

What I mean is, he's worth more to us than a loan deal, even if it is in a swap for Howard.

I really hope Howard, if he is coming, will make me eat my words.

Dunno about that, Bertrand, Rasiak, & McAnuff have all worked with Rodgers before. He's apparently been following O'Dea for a fair while as well.

That sounds like going with what you know to start with, to try and get us safe this season, while the rebuilding is done.

He won't have had time to establish new targets, and do sufficient scouting on them to be sure they'll succeed.

We'll have money left in the kitty for January if we need it.

Also, the OS has been astonishingly bad in keeping us up to date with this.

It's been 2.5 hours since the deadline shut, and we still don't have a oxf*rd clue what has happened.
