Hoop Blah
Gordons Cumming Only 2 of them played any where near regularly though.

Which one of Doyle, Duberry and Hahnemann are you discounting then?

Not getting the best out of an expensive asset like Lita, who should be a very good goalscoring at this level, also cost us to some extent.

Its things like this that strike home. We had a surplus of midfielders but how many times did one of them throw in a truly dominating performance? How many of them could throw in that kind of performance? We had a quality strikeforce, on paper, but with Lita sulking and Hunt injured, we gambled on Kitson and relied on an out-of-form Doyle when, perhaps, other options could have been available. We had two of the most highly rated wingers in the league (at least in the eyes of other fans) but what cover did we have when they lost form, confidence or the want to be at our club? Once Ivar got injured, we were left with a player slightly too old, a player in his first full season with us and square pegs in round holes at centreback.

We had an unbalanced squad that had too many average players, not enough options, not enough capability to adapt to what the season brought. We also had many of the same problems in the previous season, but we did nothing about it in the summer so only the blindly optimistic or the frankly retarded would be surprised that it was the root of our drop in form this season.

I really hope so looks like Watford are trying to push him out the door.

16.52 Watford striker Tommy Smith could be sold or faces a future pay cut as he does not fit into the Hornets' new wage structure.

Looks like all of this has been confirmed. Hopefully no problems will come up and we can see him in the squad on Saturday.

Staggering Transfer funds state

Staggering Transfer Facts

For those who dont want to trawl through numerous threads - some stats below since relegation.

To summise (please let me know if I have any anything incorrect)

Players In
Matthew Mills - £2million
Ryan Betrand - Loan
Total Spend = £2million

Players Out
Stephen Hunt - £3million
Dave Kitson - £5.5million
Ibrahima Sonko - £2million
Kevin Doyle - £6.5million
Nicky Shorey - £3.5million
Total Income = £20.5million

Potentials (Actual prices TBC)
Bikey to Burnley - £2.8million (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 18,00.html)
Harper to Wolves - £2million
Cox deal - £600k
Potential income yet to come = £5.4million

To summise
Potential Income of £25.9million against a spend of £2million - (but this could raise to circa £3.5million if we get Tommy Smith)

Salary reductions
In addition, the following players released for free saving salary;
Leroy Lita
Graeme Murty
Marcus Hahnemann
Micheal Deburry
Steve Sidwell (gonna include Steve as he was never replaced in my eyes)

Assuming average of £10k a week which is very low, thats £50k a week, or £2.6million a year saving in salaries.

I have no doubt I will have missed someone, or got an amount wrong but either way - facts speak for themselves.

Doesnt matter how anyone from the RTG camp tries to spin this - this is shocking!

Firstly, you only include players bought this summer, but sales over the past two (and salary reductions over 3! - but no note of pay rises over the same time)

You do not take in to account any additional revenue or losses either.

In essence, your post is a tad crap.

Wish I'd read this post before I replied.

Crap is the word alright.

Anyone want to do this properly? It might actually make for an interesting summary.

What other income does the club have to cover wages, pitch, travel, hotel on long trips, future player purchases, rent of hogwood, preseason tour, stadium screen, wear & tear of facilities, water, electricity, Sky broadcast license for 24000 people, TV License... have I forgotten anything?

what income can the club expect next season? The season after that? And the season after that if we don't get promoted?

Add Bikeys 2.8m transfer fee to that - I reckon that the wages of those sold this season Bikey,Hunt and Doyle topped £70k a week plus the wages of the summer release players must have been in the c£50k a week - meaning we have now saved £120k a week on wages = £6m plus saving - admittedly Mills and Bertrands wages need to be covered but even allowing £1m there, still £5m saved.

It is staggering that despite all this and the transfer funds in, the club is bleating about cutting the coat according to the cloth

Stranded , you may have a point that I have not been as accurate as I could have been - sadly, I dont have masses of time to give this the justice it requires.

Perhaps if you (or someone else) could find the time to do this properly?

I am fairly sure that the point of my post would still be valid, even when correct comparisons as made.

to be fair he's not a million miles away from the truth, I'd love to say our net profit made over the last 3 seasons, on top of the huge net profit in terms of transfers in versus transfers out we have got loads of premier league tv money and of course the parachute payments last year, i don't think we're far off a 100 million profit over the last three years. that's all well and good and no doubt the balance sheets look wonderful and the mad man is adding some nice pieces to his art collection but all the while we are becoming a very mediocre football team.

Where did all the money go? and that thread!

by Forbury Lion » 17 Aug 2009 16:41

I typed my reply so I'm going to post it!

Also, quick question - what happened to the thread? sure it may have been on the wrong forum but why delete it mods?

Reduced ticket prices
Reduced ticket sales
Increase in electricity rates (possibly less than £100k pa increase for the stadium)
Possible increase in loan payments to the chairman
Reduction in TV money
Reduction in shirt sponsor fee
Reduction in corproate hospitality rates
Reducuction in advertising revenue

As for including Steve Sidwell in any calculations - His replacement on the wage bill was probably the new contracts for Hunt and Doyle so I don't think any savings were outstanding there.

You forgot quite a few mate, including backroom staff.
The parachute payments would have been a good thing to include as well. There are so many other things you would have to include to get a good idea of the amount of profit/loss the club has made since relegation. We don't have the exact numbers for wages either, just speculation. There's also season ticket sales, money lost from skysports televised games, general stadium maintenance, total wages of backroom staff, loan repayments to the bank, water, electric, I could go on. Its impossible to tell how much money has been lost or gained unless you have ALL the figures in front of you. We just have to trust the chairman's view on our financial situation.
