Ian Royal Sorry, what is relevant about the average age of people in the actim index now or at the end of the season?

Absolutely no idea - I haven't read the thread properly.

But claiming someone that isn't 27 is 27 is something frimmers would try and do. The lad needed putting straight.

Age and maturity Ian.

The vast majority of footballers peak after the age of 26-27, centre-backs even later.

The average age of The Actim Index Top 100 Players is six weeks short of 27. ie They will be 27 in January, February, March, April, May

I used that Index as a rough example of "How old the best players are"

Great 20-21 year olds are a very small percentage of the footballing world

regardless of your blind hatred for snowball it makes utter sense to me to compare long to players of his own age- rather than the best players in the country at their peak

I agree that mid to late 20's is regarded as the peak years for most players, but I take it you've worked out the mean average from the top 100 there yes?

How about the mode? Surely that would give you a better idea of the age most likely to see you perform well wouldn't it?

And goalkeepers mature even later in life.

Although the point should always be can the club do better than what we've got? It doesn't really matter how old they are compared to whoever, it's just how good a job can they do for the team right now, and of course, to an extent, in the future.

Long is 23, soon to be 24. I'd argue that he is now fairly close to his peak, especially as a lot of his best attributes are based around youthful exuberance....

You could of course look at it the other way and say that his weaknesses are those that will get better with age so his peak is definitely ahead of him as he gains that experience needed to learn and improve.

His peak will come when he has the benefit of that experience whilst retaining the physical attributes that make him the player he is currently.

How did you work out the average of the top 100 then? Or is that a published number you just repeated earlier?

I'm not getting into it because of my promise to you sweetie. But it's a pretty flawed tangent to go off in.

You ever heard of a random sample?

Would you like to bet that when I've done the whole 100 it'll be within, at worst, two months?

Sounds weak to me.

How did you select your random sample then?

I'd expect the mean average to come out somewhere around the figure you came to yes, as I would if you took an average of all players in the division that had played at least a dozen league games.

That two months could be crucial though. It might make them even less 27 (26) or actually 27.

I think you ought to do the exercise, just to be sure.
