Barry the bird boggler ........this could be fairly big considering we've had him since he was born

This is true. A young Pearcey suckled at Cilla's teat.

I spoke to Pearce after the Newcastle game (albeit briefly) and he gave every indication of wanting to stay.

Is it just co incidence that HRK is not in the squad at the moment and at the same time his brother seems to be major problem between Pearce signing? BTW I never rated HRK as I think he is simply a showboater so actually not that bothered he's not involved.

It was interesting Saturday as HRK, Chruch and Cummings were sitting together in the Director's box watching the game and when we scored the best I can say is that they all graciously applauded.......muted applause and left pretty much 15 mins before half time. Compare that to the passion Pearce gave at the final whistle.

Get rid of all 3 of them, they're not up to it.

If he wanted to go, he would do this anyway.

Zingarevich says that Pearce has promised he will sign.

I guess that means "Will sign if we stay up"

Alternatively "Will sign rather than being sent to a Siberian gulag"

JF - Alex Pearce, is he going to sign a new contract?

AZ - We are trying to get it done and he is playing all the time. Mostly it is up to him, but he has promised me he will sign, so we will see.

I think the Daily Star paragraph is just an extrapolation of what Anton said yesterday to be honest.

The problem with this standard of pathetic journalism is that there is nothing to the story beyond the title and certainly no explanation as to how the journo has reached his conclusion. Most frustrating and unsatisfactory.

Were you expecting an extensive bibliography/list of reliable sources from the Daily Star...?

So even after talking to the papers, we are still none the wiser if he is going to stay or not

Shades of Steve Sidwell all over again. Thanks Alex. Good luck warming the bench somewhere else.

There's no way he'll be here next season, unless no one else comes in for him (large wage demands etc).
He doesn't want to burn his bridges just in case, but he'll be off. Liverpool are among the favourites, along with which ever relegation sides stay up and maybe the newly promoted teams.

West Brom have shown interest in recent past....

....Pearce is prb a good barometer reading as to the situ at The club ... Homegrown player who obv sees the limitations of squad and management team...he's recently got international call up and no doubt wants to ensure that side of his career develops....

....can't really blame the bloke for wishing to develop his career....currently not very likely to achieve that at a club that's going around in circles ....he'll play his heart out for club for rest of season but I'd suggest only to get that shop window bigger ...

No transfer fee involved so no real gamble apart from wages would be taken by any Prem club coming in for him....esp given the new TV deal....

Don't forget that there'd be a signing-on fee instead of a transfer fee - so someone moving as a free agent often does better off in the short term than someone being transferred.
