grey_squirrel If Adkins can then also assemble a squad the like of which contains players like Puncheon, Lambert, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez, Lalllana, Ramirez - or even audaciously pinches a couple of them in the summer, I would be well happy!

Trillion times better than the pap we currently have.

Between the start of last season and getting sacked Adkins spent about £30m more than McDermott and got a massive 5 more points :|

This. Anybody that wants Adkins is fukking clueless

Yeah, back to back promotions followed by a solid start in the prem, what a useless twat

Norfolk Royal
howser It was reported this week that Adkins was taking southaampton to a tribunal following his sacking, if my memory serves me correctly when Curbishly done the same to West Ham, was he not permitted to take another managers job until the result of the said tribunal settled ??

That's a complete red herring. There is nothing in the way of Adkins taking the job if it is offered and he wants it.

Yep, confirmed today that he's lodged his complaint and is now free to manage again.

Not forgetting what he did with Scunthorpe. He's proved he can manage without money too. All in all he'd be a great appointment actually. I'm actually starting to change my mind & rank Adkins over Poyet but I'd be very happy with both.

Very much with you. Happy with either, but Adkins would be a terrific appointment for the reasons mentioned and the good passing football, although that will take time, especially with this lot...

Just imagine Reading v Saints with Adkins in charge & we win courtesy of Alfie again.

Now that would be priceless! Those smug Saints fans would be crying all the way home....

Very 'timely' that his availability to manage again was announced today.

Reading seems like the right kind of fit for him TBH. Not quite prem but comfortably top 6 in the chump & almost the definition of a yoyo club.

Lets face it with the parachute money & an ambitious owner we are a decent prospect to manage. Reckon he'd be up for it.

Yep. That bettered Leicester away for me, although Leicester was special. Great atmosphere sticking it up them at the end! Having looked a few other videos from the home ends, they gave us (fans) a lot of credit that night.

I thought Upton last season was pretty epic. Especially at HT in the concourse. Going nuts it was!! Good times.

Hijacked the thread somewhat but Cardiff away play off semi is my favourite away day of recent times. So unexpected & just well...brilliant. That Jobi goal as well.

Anyone who can't admit that Adkins' CV is very impressive is mental.

In just over six seasons of management he's achieved 3 promotions, two of which were back to back with the same team. He's won 1 relegation battle he was expected to lose, lost another he was expected to lose and been on track to win another. He's done it with a fairly big club with money and he's done it with a small club without money. He's been sacked once and that was a dubious decision.

His record is P 323, W 150, D 69, L 104. That's a 46.4% win percentage. That's excellent.

This job is a poison chalice. Anything other than instant domination of the championship and immediate promotion will be seen as a failure. No wiggle room there.

That makes no sense sorry. None of us expected to be Prem this season. None of us are that surprised we are most likely going down either. We are generally pretty supportive fans who will back whoever is in charge as long as we feel the players are putting a shift in. End of.

sandman Given the way Adkins was treated by Southampton maybe he doesn't want to come to a club that treated their own highly successful manager the same way.

RoyalBlue In which case he won't have any problem coming to Reading. How dumb do people have to be to say that McDermott was treated in the same way? Adkins was sacked a lot earlier and his team was performing far better. McDermott was given longer and a second transfer window (which he and Hammond largely screwed up). The chairman only finally lost his patience after two dreadful performances and results against relegation rivals and clear indications that the manager seemed to have run out of ideas and possible solutions.

Thanks for the insult RB, classy father of two that you are.

All I am saying is that Adkins may very well see similarities in the job he did at Southampton and the job that Brian did here, the foreign chairman/owner looking to make his mark and the regard Brian is held in within the game.

After Wolves sacked their manager last season there weren't many in football lining up to take the job as the sacking was seemingly viewed as harsh given the timing, the success McCarthy achieved and the fact he was well liked in the game. A perception that seems to be echoed by many from the outside in this situation. Once bitten twice shy and all that.
