The embargo doesn’t stop us signing players in the summer though does it ? It didn’t stop us signing them in January.

We can only sign free agents and loan players. It's one thing to add a few names to a squad in that manner, but we'd need 10 of them, minimum.

There are lots of free agents in the summer desperate for clubs. It’s not ideal but it’s not something that would kill the club. We can also resign existing players who are OOC ( recognising some may feel stability is more important).

Crusader Royal Hard to see it being anyone other than Couhig.
He had a deal in place which only fell apart at the very last minute and it was Dai that killed it, not Couhig
He’s stayed around while others appear to have gone away once out of the picture
As a previous owner he’s got a track record with the FL and probably a tick exercise to get their approval
Work he did on the deal is unlikely to be made available to other buyers meaning he’s probably the only one able to complete the ‘quick’ sale
His legal challenge to Dai gives him added leverage

I believe that in a deal like this there is generally a "war room" where all documents etc are made available to parties in exclusivity - any work done by a party in exclusivity has to added to that at the end of that period, if the sale falls through.

Happy to be corrected but am sure I read that somewhere.

Yep, known as a data room. A secure online document repository for interested parties to get access to documentation related to the transaction.

I'm led to believe it's not Couhig. It's another group that has been around for a while and actually blocked the sale of Knibbs and Mbengue on deadline day (both to Championship clubs). Also told this group own another club abroad (Iberian peninsula) which has enjoyed success under their regime. Just relaying what I've been told.

Think EFL are allowing us deals by exception. We received £2m for Smith and brought in a player for low wages on a short term basis.

We have no hope for strategic planning and recruitment under the current circumstances.

The ‘exception basis’ is because we already have the minimum number of players with first team experience. We’d be allowed to staff back up to that minimum number of players.

Not sure strategic planning is a worry currently ! But of course we could still be intelligent in who we recruit. The Savage / Elliot type deals would presumably still be allowed. It’s obviously harder to recruit when you have one hand tied behind your back but the point was we would not only have 5 players on the books, even if we focused planning on the short term.

This Platek?

One year ago, Spezia owner Robert Platek relinquished his ownership of Danish club Soenderjyske. His venture in Denmark lasted less than two years, resulting in the club's relegation and financial strain.

Quick glance online shows mixed back. Spezia relegated from Serie A in Italy but they are a relatively small club. His Portuguese outfit doing well and punching above their weight. Had a car crash tenure in Denmark which hopefully he has learned from.

Better than Dai's record of 2 liquidated and the other relegated with the women's team decimated.

From the article above:

Platek faced a series of challenges in Denmark, including inadequate due diligence, unsuccessful appointments of key executives, and a complete lack of understanding of the local culture both on and off the pitch.

Why it matters: American businessman Robert Platek's ownership of several smaller European football clubs offers valuable lessons. Building a strong connection with local stakeholders is paramount; without it, an uphill battle ensues.

Robert Platek, owns Danes Sønderjysk Elitesport (10th in the Danish Superliga) and Portuguese side Casa Pia AC (currently 6th in the Portuguese Primera League). Robert is an American businessman, he previously was trying to buy Sunderland (around 5 years ago) and, apparently, is interested in setting up a multi club business model a la FSG, the City group, Red Bull etc.

2021 report from the Newcastle Chronicle

Certainly sounds interesting, wonder if it is all correct :?

Eventually, however, Casa Pia managed to work their way back to the spotlight. In 2010, Casa Pia finished atop the Portuguese fourth tier, and in 2019, they made their way to the Portuguese second division. However, trouble would soon be around the corner: Casa Pia finished bottom of the second tier, and with the COVID-19 pandemic rearing its ugly head, the Gansos found themselves in grave danger of collapse.

Instead, they were saved by the bell: Vitória de Setúbal and Aves were relegated from the top-flight to the third division after failing to provide valid licensing documentation to compete in the professional leagues, and as such, both Casa Pia and Cova da Piedade stayed afloat in the second tier. That same year, American investor Robert Platek decided to acquire the club and appoint Miguel Lopes as CEO.

Bit by bit, the two started to rebuild the team from scratch and use data and technology to improve their player recruitment. They finished ninth in the 2020/21 campaign, and the following year, they finished second to achieve promotion to the Primeira Liga. For the first time in 83 years, Casa Pia were going to be playing in Portugal’s top-flight.

With their improved budget, Casa Pia were able to set a long-term goal of refurbishing the Estádio Pina Manique in order to meet the league’s minimum requirements. During their first year back in the top-flight, Casa Pia were forced to play at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, more than an hour north of Lisbon, and Estádio Nacional, typically used to host cup finals.
...
Over the first half of this decade, Casa Pia have been able to punch above their weight and ascend the Portuguese footballing pyramid thanks to their shrewd player trading model. From Jota Silva (now at Nottingham Forest) to Clayton, from Saviour Godwin to Felippe Cardoso, Casa Pia have been able to develop raw, young prospects and mold them into impressive players before selling them for lucrative fees. At 25, there’s reason to believe that Moreira could be the next player to leave Casa Pia for a mouth-watering price.

Bit in bold seems encouraging.

Well he's apparently got a net worth of between 1.6 billion & 3 billion based on what report you read, so he isn't short of a bob or two.

Looks like we may suddenly see random loans from Denmark and Portugal then.

Keep hearing "this deal will get done quickly"..... Does it mean this potential owner shits money and will pay anything?.

WestYorksRoyal Also a feeling it's now or never. If it's not this time, we go into the summer with 5 players and the Smith money running out.

Dai has to sell this time or the hope is over for everyone, including him.

Yeah, you’d think only having 5 players under contract in the summer and the club being under an embargo due to non submission of accounts has forced the sale. However, this is Dai after all.

The embargo doesn’t stop us signing players in the summer though does it ? It didn’t stop us signing them in January.

It stops us signing players if we already have 20 something players with at least 1 professional appearance anywhere, without special permission... Campbell was a special case because we sold Azeez, and then a special case because we were essentially just extending his loan.

Bodin was a special case because we'd just sold Smith. Bindon was a sale and loan back so didn't change anything.

If we go down to 5 senior players, depending on how many youth with apprarances we retain, we'll be able to makes signings up to the 20 something number. But we'll still be banned from paying fees, I believe.
