Surely the one encouraging aspect is that the EFL won’t sanction another turkey and leave us right in it again in the near future

The FL will follow their normal policies and procedures and as long as those are met don’t have any other say in the sale of a private business.

But isn't the OADT test now more robust than when AZ and Dai bought us?

It's still only going to focus on:

1) do they have the money
2) are they literal criminals

There's no magic vetting procedure for only letting competent people with good intentions take over.

And the vast majority of people interested in buying football clubs are dodgy as oxf*rd, and competent is hardly a word for them either.

WestYorksRoyal If it's multi club ownership, we may do well in recruitment. A player tearing up the Championship will command a higher fee than any in the Portuguese league except the big ones like Porto and Benfica.

If you're looking to rake in transfer revenue, get us promoted and we're the cash cow.

Casa Pia seem to be a very small side - regional leagues until about four or five years ago. It's possible we'll be the biggest club in any multi-club model, so could be very good for player development if we can get back to the Championship or higher.

Casa Pia AC is just over 100 years old and played in the first Portuguese top division until relegation and the government nicking their ground in 1939, which set them back and reduced them to wandering from ground to ground for quite some time. Despite that, they managed to remain in the Portuguese league system (National Championships) pretty much every year since but only managed to return to the top flight for this season.

Out of interest the name Casa Pia means Pious House which refers to the name of an orphanage school founded way back in the 18th century. Sport was high on the school agenda in the 19th century and football took off pretty much as soon as the British brought the sport over to Lisbon. The first Casa Pia teams comprised the school students and became the first Portuguese team to beat the Carcavellos Club, which had all British players, in 1893. As they left the school the students spread the game and gave rise to clubs like Vitoria Setubul and Benfica.

The “House” students eventually decided to found their own club in 1920 and they won virtually every trophy on offer in Portugal at that time, they are also the first Portuguese club to play in the Azores, to play in Paris and they played Seville to inaugurate Seville’s stadium in the 1920s. The club is based in Lisbon and is nicknamed the Geese.

Not sure there would have been grounds to reject either. At the point of purchase there was money and neither had disqualifying convictions.

WestYorksRoyal How strong is his link with Michael Dell? He is worth >$100bn.

Didn’t Michael Dell live locally in the Bracknell area at some point for a short while? Certainly Dell was UK headquartered in Bracknell until recently.

Platek isn't the ideal candidate for a new owner (I honestly think that would be Ashley), but he's far from the worst.

He's not some fantasist/chancer looking to cosplay as a Football Owner. He's also not some clueless chump with more money than brain cells. He seems to be a fairly savvy business person with experience in running clubs (with varying results). He's only going to make money from us if we increase in value, we're only going to increase in value if we achieve success under a sustainable financial model.

I feel like this is a guy who will try to get the most out of every pound and see a return to being a competitive Championship team as his best avenue for profit.

This guy seems streets better than Mike Ashley who I think is very overrated for some reason.

That's not entirely true, is it. We could 'increase in value' as a financial asset without a particularly sustainable model. Define 'sustainable' I guess. Wrexham FC is worth a lot more now than it was a few years ago, but is only 'sustainable' in its current form because a couple of A-listers are pumping money into the club.

I guess the thing with Ashley is you know what you're going to get. Very little unknown with him.

Okay. I mean he writes, directs, produces and stars in the longest running sitcom in US TV history. But yeah.
