Lolz! Although it looks more like Leigertwood

Looks more like something removed from jam jars in the early naughties. Why is Kebe being attacked by a giant dove?

Tbf people we'd now call Italians once conquered the known world.

Now the French...

From QI:

Despite their reputation, the French have fought more military campaigns than any other European nation and won twice as many battles as they have lost. The British may pride themselves on superiority at sea, but it was driven by the realisation that they could never win a land war on the Continent. The French Army has usually been the largest, best equipped and most strategically innovative in Europe. At its best, under Napoleon in 1812, it achieved a feat that even the Nazis couldn’t repeat: it entered Moscow.

HoneyRoastHoax The french are the most successful army in the world .

It isn't like football, where you accumulate points over time ending in a final standing. It's more like chess, where if you win then you are better than your opponent.

In 1939 the table would reasonably look something like this:

France
Britain
Soviet Union
USA
Japan
(others)
Germany
Austria
China

Following the German/Austrian/Italian defeat of France and the managed retreat of the British from Dunkirk, the Germans (and their allies) jumped to #1. Then they got destroyed on the Eastern Front, and before the Russians forced Berlin to surrender, the British, the Canadians and their allies liberated Occupied France.

Warfare since that time leaves the Vietnamese in first place.

So, up to 1939 France were the best, Italy (your example) were nowhere to be seen: just because you lost your last game (up to and including 1945) it doesn't make you a bad team.

Since 387 BC. they have fought 168 battles, won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10. (Pretty good going)

I'm sure Jimmy would agree (as long as he viewed himself to be French and not the victim of a spent Colonial force).

I'd go for an ELO type rating system. We had an easy time knocking the colonials (including the Irish, Indians etc) about but struggled when it came to a tear up with Hitler, Napolean

A civil war between two British sides, so a goal each. Anyway we burnt the White House down in 1812. The score is 2-1 to Britain
